The goal of this thread is to have a leaderboard of annual operating incomes across the board to show who has had some of the best and worst years, financially, in the history of gaming. I will include operating income data from every year obtainable for any gaming company. My goal is to include all independent gaming companies, as time permits me. It is difficult, so hopefully, you are patient (if you desire this sort of data at all, like I do).
Why is it difficult? The data is scattered all over the place, some data may not be locatable anymore for some companies (especially if the company went out of business a long time ago). Some of the data is in Yen, so I have to convert it to dollars, then adjust it for inflation. The operating income of games for some companies is merged with other divisions, making it even harder to get precise information.
I will be updating as time permits, especially if enough are interrested in this sort of data. I prefer to look at actual dollars to see which gaming companies are dominating, rather than software/hardware sales figures, because those figures aren't all sold at the same level of profit as other companies.Anyway, here is data I've gathered so far:
*All Numbers adjusted to 2000 inflation levels for future proofing.
*Massive thanks to @liquidninja for getting this going back in 2009 and the data collected https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/57802/profit-numbers-nintendo-sony-game-segment-and-microsoft-edd-segment/1/
