Luigi's Mansion 3 returns.

That just shows how insane last year was, it didn’t matter what came out, demand was that high.
That’s what I tried telling some people who were convinced holiday sales this year would crush last year’s, just because it has the bigger system sellers on paper doesn’t matter because 2020 was not a normal year.
When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.
And Shin Megami Tensei V leaves the top 30.
At this pace the Switch will get so many 30/30s that they'll stop feeling special :P
1. Are any of the models supply constrained? It's kinda weird that the lite and normal model are almost neck and neck
2. I wonder what would happen if Nintendo dropped the price on the lite by $30-$50?
Honestly, this year was kinda weaker on the software side than last year. But next year looks to be Nintendo's best in year in.... forever? Of course there will be a saturation cap at some point, that is, factoring in the market not expanding from generation to generation. This generation, Switch, Series and PS5 should want to expand the market and not just garnering to the same crowd generation after generation.

That's definitely true. People underestimate the power of Animal Crossing even as a 7m seller. In fact, many of the good sales this year can probably be attributed to Animal Crossing, even if it released last year.
Famitsu Top 50 2021(Unofficial Ranking)
TOTAL: 17.764.991
NSW TOTAL: 16.913.613 (95.2%)
PS4 TOTAL: 851.378 (4.8%)
This week the PS4 versions of Tsukihime and Super Robot Wars 30 exited the Top 50 meaning that Switch will end up likely close to 96% of the market once the final updates come in for the Top 50(when Famitsu releases the Top 100). In fact only 5 games made the Top 50 and not a single one from the PS5.
Top 10 Publishers:
In terms of the Top 10 Publishers, Pokemon overtook Capcom this week.
No Zelda games in the top 30, is this the first time since Switch launch?

No, it is bad. When you look at the table, you see that the hybrid sold more than 200k units a year ago, so sub-100k supply for OLED this year is without a doubt bad. There are clear shipment problems and they are bigger than initially assumed. November in the USA was down year over year too, so it's not like Nintendo is diverting supply away from Japan to boost overseas sales. It's becoming increasingly clear that Nintendo calculated with a shipment breakdown of ~10.0m and ~5.6m for fiscal Q3 and Q4, respectively, in order to meet their revised shipment goal. Either that, or something similar to Sony happened to them too. We can see that Sony isn't on track to meet their forecast anymore, a sudden turn of events as in late October they were still sure to make it. Right now there's no choice but to wait until late January to hear from both manufacturers. |
Are there any recent articles about supply issues in Japan or otherwise for the Switch?
It would be strange for Nintendo to predict no YoY drop and then not ship anything...
Edit: Nintendo said Japan was 22.3% of sales last year. It sold about 2m, so ~2.3m shipments, leading to ~10m worldwide shipments.
If the same proportion then Switch sells ~1.8m. So ~2.1m shipments, leading to ~9.1m worldwide shipments.
But actually Nintendo says Japan's share decreased to 21.3% and might decrease further. so closer to ~10m worldwide shipments.
Seems to make sense in the end.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 gets discontinued in the next 2 months. It's doing bad everywhere, same with Xbox One. |
Not sure about Japan, but PS4 is out of stock everywhere in the UK. If Sony are still manufacturing units, its in such small quantities it might as well be discontinued. This won't be a situation like the 3DS where there are a million unsold systems in the wild at the end of its life

It's also out of stock everywhere in Australia since late last year just after the PS5 launched
