The Gyro aiming made the Resident Evil games much more playable and enjoyable. It makes the decision to leave them out of RE4 even more inexplicable.

Gyro was the least of that game's problems.
Anyways, I'd say Splatoon 2 off the top of my head. Inconceivable to play it with analog aiming.

Their focus on gyro, rather than other features, is what caused the other problems, is what I'm saying.

Fair enough, but even then I'd say the dual-screen thing was way worse.
For me, the best I've played so far are Monster Hunter Rise, Sniper Elite 4, Warframe, and Splatoon 2. All felt smooth and intuitive and made aiming a breeze.

I'm with mzuzek, I felt the real problem was the dual screen gimmick. If you got rid of the gyro or made it optional it would still be a bad game.
There's no reason you can't have gyro controls in a good game; see MH Rise or Splatoon 2 or Doom 2016/Eternal.
