The Wii was a titan in America, but the Switch only has to sell less than a third of its sales to date to overtake it.

That's the equivalent of selling around 120 million globally.

Around the Network

The Wii Party is over.

Switch's gap with PS4 in lifetime sales now less than 10% of the former's sales to date, and less than it sold in the last 12 months.

The race should be over by the end of 2022, if not earlier.

In the US it should be over in mid 2022 already. No actually by March already.

2020 November and December: 1.356m + 2.1m = 3.456m*
2019 November and December: 1.43m + 2.036m = 3.466m*
2018 November and December: 1.356m + 1.77m = 3.126m*

*Numbers include estimates because actual leaks of NPD figures have become rare.

Current gap between Switch and PS4: 3.32m

Nintendo's hardware forecast suggests virtually flat global shipments during the holiday quarter, so if the same holds true for the allocation of units for the USA, then Switch should pass the PS4 by the end of 2021. If not, it should be so close that January finishes the job.

Switch vs. PS4 in the USA is a similar scenario as Switch vs. Wii worldwide. As long as Switch supply is roughly flat year over year, Switch is in a very good position to win both sell-through comparisons by the end of 2021.

Awesome, thanks for the numbers.
