I think the prices of the new consoles are fine where they are right now.

Irrelevant, it will never happen, period. Can you imagine the backlash from fans? Sony wouldn't do it because they would lose fans to Microsoft side, Microsoft would not do it because they would lose fans to Sony side.

It's not even worth thinking about it if its impossible to happen.

Good way to kill console sales.

Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

This definitely isn't going to happen. As I said in the OP, and others have also mentioned, the PR hit just wouldn't allow it. But, remember, its a hypothetical.

I think the answer right now is to figure out a way to stop scalpers.

That wouldn't put any more consoles on the market.

Scalpers are only able to scalp because demand far exceeds supply.

I haven't really been keeping up on all that. Are they really selling as soon as they're listed on Ebay? I assumed they weren't.

I haven't been keeping up all that closely the last couple of months myself. But, an eBay search of sold items just now shows me tons of sales today between $700 and $800 for both PS5 and Series X .

Sculpers will sculp regardless. It also wouldnt make sense for the new model PS5 offering less console but will be more expensive to the orginial superior model.

technically nintendo is doing this with the OLED model, if you think about it... the base switch should have dropped prices ages ago, but it basically flying off the shelves since realese untill now means they never needed to.
