Forums - Sony Discussion - PS Studios organic growth, new projects for ND

Seems like Sony isn`t sitting on their a**....s

In about one year they increased their headcount 33%

From 3000 to 4000 devs is a good increase in such a short time, perhaps some studios even got new teams under them.

Several good games developed by the 14 studios out there, besides the supporting ones and new additions.

And best news, ND is looking to do both new IPs and revisit UC and TLOU.

Happy we're finally getting a new IP from ND.

month* according to that tweet...

I believe that to be a typo, if Sony had hired 1000 devs in one month we would have heard several news about it =]

1000 new devs even in a year is a LOT of people.

But this is VG charts... at some point some people will say that is possibly nothing.

Great numbers tho.

“From 3000 to 4000 devs is a good increase in such a short time, perhaps some studios even got new teams under them.“

… I think they’re talking about their fan account not devs…

Bolded Does this mean they'll do more than one new IP? If so sounds great with multiple new IP that would be amazing for 4,000 devs in one umbrella.

I don't think it would be more than one simultaneously, but sure long term I think we are going to see more than one (perhaps not in PS5 gen though, because let's say if they made another TLOU, another UC and 2 new IPs in a single gen it would be a faster output than what we had on PS4).

Now that's the way to improve output while preserving if not enhancing quality organicly.

To bad I fell out of love with ND after their last game. Hope the other studios under sony get similar treatment.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

That’s awesome to hear! I think Housemarque was made up of around 80-100 employees I think? Not sure about Nixxus. So approx. 900 employees added to Sony’s preexisting teams seems extremely exciting and promising. I think teams like GG started whole second teams. Sounds like ND and SSM have as well. Hype!

Thanks for creating this thread. This is the first interesting PS-related thread I’ve seen in a while. Miss the old hype days. Unfortunately, only 11 posts here after 1 day. The PS fan base has truly died on this site haha.

Or because the twitter post isn't about PlayStation Studios but the fanpage itself growing from 3000 to 4000 followers in a month and Don misread it?

Exactly. The page’s name is PlayStation Studios News and is a fanpage. The tweet only references their increase in followers, and isn’t related in any way to what is actually going on at Sony and PlayStation Studios.

Dammit. Ugh. I should’ve known better. Been slim pickins in the past couple years in terms of exciting news for PS fans, esp in regards to Sony expanding their stable of studios (and esp in comparison to MSFT). Sony’s done a lot right, but they’ve also had a lot of confounding stumbles and missteps. PS increasing their studio employee count by 33% in 1 year felt very exciting and like such an overwhelmingly positive step, and it quelled my disappointment and confusion about them sitting on their hands while MSFT buys up all of the remaining quality independent studios. But alas, the excitement was all for naught. PS fans will just continue to sit here waiting, bored, as Sony allows Xbox to continue getting all the positive, exciting news. ?

On a different note, I just saw this. This reads to me like essentially a confirmation of the Bluepoint acquisition, no?
