Next few months are going to be rough for the Switch.

Why?

If you think because of the OLED model coming in October and not many games until then, then keep in mind that the Switch is still selling over 60k per week. That will probably still drop a bit until the release, but not so much that one needs to worry about, and the release week of the OLED model should wipe out again most of those losses anyway.

He thinks the Switch will fall of a cliff, that's why.

This is another week where 22,641 PS5's were sold and yet no games are in the top 30.

According to Sony, Q1 2021 was 79% digital rate for full games on PS4/PS5, and now Q2 was 71% digital rate for full games. And perhaps due to the pandemic  imposed lockdowns, the digital rate has substantially increased since the PS5 released. We can assume as PS5 SW takes over PS4 SW, a higher proportion will be digital. PS5 may have higher than 80% digital rates.

Even so with 71%. That leaves 29%, or 6,566 PS5 owners would have to buy the same game. But that is not going to happen as the PS5's library does not have an extremely hard hitter to take the majority of sales and PS5 owners chose to buy a variety of other games.

Bold: This is world wide. In Japan digital is lower.

Game Builder Garage is doing really well in Japan for what it is.
The Japanese seem to like stuff like this, Ring Fit, Momotaro, Miitopia, etc more than the West.

Japan? You know the Japanese market tends to physical released, right? Only exception was when the physical games sold out, likewise Monster Hunter, Animal Crossing, etc. The best digital sales on Japanese market physical/digital ratio are 70/30. The exceptions was the big games when the physical version was sold out.

The mitical digital Japanese ratio, with this hypothesis, the software sales are abysmally yet. The Ps5 performance is worst than 360.

So you will suggest that Japan has a low digital rate, as low as 30%, while the worldwide rate is 71-79%. That means in other countries like the US, the rate would up to 90% in order to average out.

Instead, I think all major markets have similar digital rates.

You have two problems with this comparison. First, digital in Japan is very low, included sony consoles. Second, the Ps4/Ps5 have two consoles in different situations.  We don´t know how the percentage of the ratio digital/physical have ps5, year pass and consoles with more time have a percentage of digital bigger than physical, the recent switch paper demonstrate this.

Digital is also much higher during pandemic level events. Digital also tends to be higher as generations go on, and the PS5/XBS is the latest generation. Yeah we have no idea the digital levels, so then why is the PS5 not selling any SW in Japan?

Take the optimistic route for once.

Take the optimistic route for once.

And with this delusional route, the software sales were indeed abysmal yet.

Software output in Switch, one first month, you have a  game that sells better than console. In the first 27 days, Nintendo has a better software/console ratio better than the dreams ps5 route in the holiday period(51 days).  1,45 Nintendo Japan(27 days) vs 1,25 Ps5 Japan(51 days).

And the switch doesn´t count with digital-only games.

PS5 hardware /2020 291.236

PS5 software/2020 109.374

Best case scenario (dream scenario)

30%  109 374 physical

70% 255.206  digital

Software / hardware ratio 1,251

PS5 is undoubtably doing worse than the Switch, and will continue to do that for the rest of its life in Japan. It will probably sell less than the PS4 as well. Still I think PS4 would be a better comparison for the PS5.
