Interesting that the stronger Switch is easier to emulate than the weaker PS3 + Xbox 360:

Switch code makes use of less outdated programming conventions?

Architecture for the Switch is probably way better, I guess. Also how do you like the emulated Switch games on the deck?

A new version of the Deck seems to be a bit far away. Maybe they are waiting to check what Switch 2 has to offer?

It's kinda weird seeing people over on reddit expecting Valve to dish out a refresh, despite the fact that it has only been 2 years.

it makes more sense logically to give it 5 years, then launch a Deck 2 by the 6th year, because by then they could bide their time and wait to see what AMD/Nvidia come up with and make deals by then.

Would be better doing that than say, tossing out a slight refresh unit that costs more, but only has a 10-20% improvement rate. I'd rather take a 45-60% improvement rate tbh.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Predicted this on the PC thread a while ago after seeing how terrible RDNA 3 was.

Interesting. Where is the discussion. I'm curious.

It was quite a while ago shortly after RDNA 3 reviews came out around December 2022. When the Asus Ally came out and the 15 watt tdp was barely any faster than the Steam Deck, it really showed how RDNA 3 was very inefficient compared to RDNA 2.

Update of previous compatibility results broken down by SteamDB rating (2023-04-07, Easter edition):

A total of 8594 out of 11187 tested Steam games are now rated "playable+".

34.8% of the 1370 "90+ games" and 24.8% of the 4412 "85+ games" are now "verified".

74.2% of the 1370 "90+ games" and 57.3% of the 4412 "85+ games" are now "playable+".

76.8% of the tested games are playable, with tweaks a lot more. The higher the SteamDB rating, the higher this percentage becomes: at 80+ rating it's 82.6%, at 85+ rating 84% and at 90+ rating 86.6% playable without any tweaks.

Over 2200 games of my own Steam library are now categorized as "verified" or "playable". Filtered for "singleplayer", the playable+ percentage increases from 47% to 59%.

Update of previous compatibility results broken down by SteamDB rating (2023-06-27):

A total of 10000 out of 12935 tested Steam games are now rated "playable+".

35.2% of the 1404 "90+ games" and 25.2% of the 4550 "85+ games" are now "verified".

75.2% of the 1404 "90+ games" and 58.8% of the 4550 "85+ games" are now "playable+".

2326 games of my own Steam library are now categorized as "verified" or "playable".

Update of previous compatibility results broken down by SteamDB rating (2023-10-09):

A total of 11752 out of 15029 tested Steam games are now rated "playable+".

39.7% of the 1455 "90+ games" and 26.7% of the 4777 "85+ games" are now "verified".
76.6% of the 1455 "90+ games" and 61.1% of the 4777 "85+ games" are now "playable+".

78.2% of the tested games are playable, with tweaks a lot more. The higher the SteamDB rating, the higher this percentage becomes: at 80+ rating it's 83.8%, at 85+ rating 85.0% and at 90+ rating 86.6% playable without any tweaks:

2582 games of my own Steam library are now categorized as "verified" or "playable"... at New Year it only were 1800 games.

Already more than half of my Steam library is rated "playable+", the majority of the unchecked 37.5% is probably playable, too.

Only 12.35% of my library is rated "unsupported" so far; excluding VR-games less than 10% of my library is rated "unsupported":

Interesting addition: the SteamDB rating got more transparent: 85+ games with less than 100 Steam reviews aren't counted; 90+ games need at least 200 reviews and 100 followers to be counted... probably to avoid irrelevant games with only a handful positive and no negative votes to fill the top of the chartz.

7 games have more than a million reviews (Couter-Strike more than 7.6 million reviews), 26 games have more than 500k reviews:

I'm hyped for the announced Steam Deck OLED.

Thanks to the cumulative efficiency improvements (APU 7 nm -> 6 nm, battery 40 Wh -> 50 Wh, more efficient display), the battery life is enhanced by 30% - 50%

For less demanding games (i usually play those with a TDP lock of 8 - 10 watts) the Steam Deck OLED is now in Switch territory and leagues ahead of all the other PC handhelds:

Even the carrying case is improved... there is a compact case inside the normal case.

It is shown at the end of Dave's video:

I'll likely be buying the mid-tier version. The OLED display is quite insane with 1000 nits peak brightness + 110% P3 + 90Hz + Glossy panel. The software work that Valve has been doing really does justify going linux instead of windows.
