This one is for Nintendo

34 years playing games.

I voted for Nintendo, but seriously considered Microsoft. And Sony. And even Konami. Frikkin' Konami!

Love and tolerate.

I know, this year was great!

Received 13 votes so far, which is about half of what we'd normally get (sometimes less than half). Unless the votes pick up I may switch back to the old way and have to limit options to 9 + other in order to get more votes. I doubt it would have made much of a difference on this one, as Nintendo is currently winning 76.92% of the votes for 20001 and likely would have blown everyone out anyway.

Nintendo wins as the standalone company from the list provided, at least from today's perspective. That said, if you consider the winner in terms of platforms then Grand Theft Auto 3, Final Fantasy X and Grand Tourismo 3 propels the PS2 camp to beat the Gamecube's showing, in my view. These three games defined the generation, while the only game that Nintendo had that was on this level was Smash. Luigi's Mansion was not an adequate substitute for the lack of a mainline 3D Mario in the launch window.

Furthermore, if you assign the winner from the perspective of being a gamer in 2001, the PS2 would have absolutely swept the floor with the Gamecube, and I am not sure that Nintendo could even be called the winner if you break the presentations up by company. Nintendo was really struggling with the image of its new platform as being a "kiddie" console and the purple lunchbox that was showcased here was not well-received. I got a Gamecube in 2001 and I was the only teenager I knew who had one in the launch window. The console did not have a lot of hype and I think that a lot of gamers were making the decision to go with XBox or PS2 during the E3 timeframe..

This was the first E3 I ever watched on tv.

I remember expecting a Zelda/Mario and being disappointed. Smash isn’t my thing. I loved Luigis Mansion and Pikmin debut!!!! Waverace was exciting. Game boy advance games weren’t too thrilling imo, games without footage also didn’t intrigue me.

Xbox had Halo:CE and the footage was unbelievable. Graphics, seamless loading, real physics, orchestra.. the design on silent cartographer was like nothing I’d ever seen. I remember the person showin it off died on screen, ending his presentation.

Microsoft also pulled out Amped and Oddworld. I was really interested in those, 1st party offerings. Gunvalkyrie was a sega game. I’m surprised it’s under Microsoft on Ops list.

I bought both consoles on launch so it’s fair to say they tied.. but if I’m giving the win to just one — Microsoft it is.

This would have been one epic E3. Capcom, Squaresoft, Blizzard, Activision, SCIE, Microsoft and Konami (RIP) all showing top tier stuff.

Nintendo had one crazy (and huge) lineup so I guess that takes it.

We often think about E3 in terms of platforms and which one had the best listing of games, but when I started this whole multi-thread voting I wanted to focus on individual developers (or the owner of developers) to truly celebrate the software teams.

I have to give this to Nintendo. They have a crapload of games including Advance Wars. There are some decent GCN games there too even though I don't think it's that great of a system overall. Nintendo simply had a really good 2001.
