1) The trailers for Sword and Shield released months before the launch of the game too, and when it launched, it had very little changes from those, even with things that people complained about before release. Textures were unchanged, NPC movements were unchanged, big spaces were too empty...

2) That's right, Nintendo-made games get a lot of polish in their last months. But this is Game Freak we're talking about here, not Nintendo. And ever since they went 3D, the performance of their games has gone down quite rapidly. Just look at the dip in quality SwSh can get in certain parts (like the wild areas, or the very short draw distances), and that was with all of the corner cutting supposedly done to improve performance.

3) That's not a point in favour of the game. If the game's going to need months to get enough content to justify its purchase, why bother launching it so soon? This is not acceptable behaviour, just finish the game before releasing it.

I would say that, after the disaster that was Sword and Shield (from failure to communicate, to new levels of corner cutting and recycling, to simplifying the story and gameplay once again, to charging extra for less content...) it would be wise to be skeptical of Game Freak. I don't know whose fault is it, if it's Masuda being unambitious or The Pokemon Co. putting a lot of pressure from behind the scenes, but the quality of their releases has reached a breaking point for me. And unless we see some drasting improvement, I'm not going to support them. Don't preorder, wait for reviews.

Though in the end, it's not going to matter much. People complained a lot with Dexit, and after all the boycott threats, SwSh ended up becoming the fastest selling pokemon game ever. I don't believe the fanbase can put their money where their mouth is.

1. Didn't Gamefreak add Pokemon in the overworld due to feedback from gamers after the announcement trailer? The announcement only showed random battles and people didn't like that. In addition, Pokemon Arceus is getting two extra months of polish on top of what Pokemon Sword and Shield received.

2. While I agree that Sword and Shield isn't a graphical showcase IDK why people are suggesting that the quality of Pokemon has dipped so much since it went to 3D. Honestly, Sun and Moon were some of the best looking games on the 3DS. I would also imaging that Monolith Soft is helping with the world building of this game.

3. I agree with this point completely.

I hope I'm wrong, but this really needs more time in the oven, if what we saw last is anything to go by. GameFreak has struggled a lot in the technical department (corner cutting aside), and this seems more experimental than the usual Pokemon title.

Judging by this photo it looks far more polished now.

that is from the trailer we saw in feb that ran at 2 frames per second :P

Has this been in development for... 1 year or something like that?

Also, LOL at them being in the distant past but using Pokeballs.

They announced it in February, but that doesn't mean it only started development last year. I don't think they've given us a timeframe for when they started development. Game Freak always works on multiple projects at a time.

As for your Pokeball comment, you can see in the trailer how they aren't traditional Pokeballs. They're made of wood and have metal clasps instead of the traditional button like Pokeball we see from modern games.

I mean, they are still time-space warping devices which are also far from being coherent with Pokemon games world technology but they being used in an even less futuristic/distant past setting looks funny to me xD

If any other Nintendo studio was developing it I would be excited, but GF has been proven over and over to be nothing but coding noobs so my reaction to this game is a big yawn

Once it gets released and I see some footage and reviews I will chose if it's an ok purchase or not

I'm pretty sure the roaming pokemon wasn't a thing they added because of the fans, but because they already had it from Let's Go. Whether it was ready or not by the time of the first trailer, I have no idea. And about the graphics, Sun and Moon had a decent amount of slowdown in certain areas (especially in double-triple battles). That continued in Sword Shield, plus added some more issues, even though the Switch is vastly more powerful than the 3DS. Also, the 2D sprites allowed for environments more complex and detailed, plus they give you an easier time to suspend your disbelief (Pallet town is three houses, that's fine on a 2D environment, but a town with 3 houses in a free roaming 3D game is harder to swallow). The most developed a town has looked in the 3D games is Lumiose City, back on X/Y.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I love Pokemon as a franchise but I think I’m over the mainline games now. It actually hurt me to come to terms with that! I know Arceus won’t necessarily be a mainline game, but I just feel such little interest. I love New Pokemon Snap, though and would go insane for a Pokemon Stadium. Love the franchise, just not the mainline games. Perhaps I’ve just outgrown them. Sad ?

So my first Pokemon game I ever completed was Pokemon Blue. - I would have sunk hundreds of hours into that as a kid on the Gameboy.

The next Pokemon game I ever completed was Sword. - And I honestly couldn't wait for it to be over.

The worst part was that Sword and Shield brought absolutely *nothing* new to the story, it's the same recycled scenarios. It was boring.
Visually the game looked like trash and didn't belong on the Switch as a AAA priced release... And it's hand-holding linear paths that sometimes "pretended" to be open world didn't do it any favors either.

Not sure if I will pick up Arceus considering the minimal changes from Pokemon Blue (1996) to Pokemon Sword (2019) from a story and gameplay perspective... Guess I will wait on reviews and hope they put some effort into it.

I am probably being a little critical on the franchise, but that is only because I want it to be better and I know it can be better. - I did enjoy Pokemon Snap! recently.

--::{PC Gaming Master Race}::--

Didn't expect to get a release date for this so soon, really hope that they're not rushing it out, it looked really rough in that first trailer but maybe the trailer was made from an older build of the game.

Man, this has so much potential to really be something special if they would just give it more time to develop and also get help from people who know what they're doing/specialize in this sort of big, open-world, atmospheric kind of stuff (Monolith Soft. or the Breath of the Wild team.) This game really looks rushed and half-baked in various places and at the moment I just do not trust Game Freak to make a truly incredible game that delivers on both quality and ambition.

I haven't played Sword and Shield admittedly, but Pokemon isn't the kind of game you play for the story in the first place (even if SwSh is probably subpar on that department even by Pokemon standards). The only Pokemon games I remember having a good story are the Gen 5 games.
