Wait, so the week with the best PS5 launch, the PS4 beats the PS5 in sales? The supply is much worse than I thought...

You know it deserves the GOTY.

GTA V will never stop surprise me.

There wasnt even a huge influx of new Playstation systems sold this week, and still the game sold almost 6k units at retail.

I mean every single week the PS5 is not doubling PS4's numbers is sign of horrible supply. Software releases essentially mean nothing, probably won't do until the fall/autumn

Sony didn't even send extra supply for a big launch? I wouldn't say this is a good strategy.

I wonder how's that going to affect the sales of new releases. With such a hardware bottleneck, I imagine many will delay their release to wait for a bigger launch. That or keep releasing them crossgen, but at that point why bother with a PS5/XBox XS version at all?

Because they outsell last-gen versions by a comfortable margin. Without that PS5/Series X label, these games will have a lot less hype. Being on next gen automatically makes the small but highly active userbase more likely to try the titles out.

But unlike the 7th to 8th gen transition, this gen is actually backwards compatible. They can be played on modern hardware without any problem. Hell, they are probably cheaper.

Sure, but far fewer people are buying last gen software. The best example is Miles Morales, where last week in the UK 80% of its sales were for PS5. Plenty of people on last gen hardware are dialing down their spending, meanwhile on the new platforms people are eager to buy games that take advantage of the PS5, even if its maybe not something they'd usually get day 1. So all in all developers are definitely expanding their audience and marketing reach by putting games on PS5 vs just keeping it to the PS4.

The real story this week is GTA5.  It outsold every title but RE8.  The game is like 8 years old.  Maybe this is why the PS4 outsold the PS5 this week.  People don't care about new games in Spain.  They care about GTA5.  You don't need a PS5 for that.
