Halo is not a bigger name than mario or smash bros... so i guess they are kind of even.

Sorry, I forgot to add: The PS2 and PS1 were the successes they were mostly because they stole all of the 3rd party support from their competitors due to their huge userbase. If the Wii does not become the dominant console in America (55%+ market share with 3 consoles out) or even manage to breakeven with the 360, then this shift will not occur (particularly amongst 3rd party American publishers) and the likelihood of the Wii truly following in the footsteps of the PS1/2 (and dominating the entire globe) becomes scant.
It makes sense for Nintendo to consentrate on NA. They are dominating Japan, 360 has no chance, and it is looking like Sony will not have any chance. I mean if they sell under 10k from now until sometime in 08 with FF comes out will it even matter... Having the largest market share ww is the most important, dominating all 3 regions is even better. This gen we have an odd scenario where one console was out first and got a huge lead in only 1 region. Not enough for them to dominate ww but maybe enough to keep the lead in NA for a long time. But it will really come down to how many people are actually waiting for Halo to get a 360. Sure it will sell well, but that isnt important, will it move the consoles? 360 has a ton of FPS games so I dont see a lot of people waiting for Halo to get a 360, they had plenty of time to get a 360 and enjoy other FPS games that they like. Also I think Brawl will do better than Halo sales wise anyway. Once Nintendo passes the 360 in NA there is no looking back. MS will continue to get support from 3rd parties, they will get most of the games the PS3 gets while getter more exclusives than the PS3, but the Wii is a different console completely. They will get a lot of exclusives regardless of the 360. Now the 360 sells about 50k a week, while the Wii is selling 125k and is still sold out. Let say the Wii can see 150k from now until the end of October. That means that the Wii can make up 100k/week on the 360 or about 2.3M. Putting the 360 withing reach during Xmas. Now if the Wii can be produced and sell out at 200k/week then they would sell about 3.45M and would catch the 360 in the first week of October. So it is hard to say what will happen. I think if Nintendo can produce the units they will surpass the 360 this year. I think Wii will outsell the 360 monthly even when Halo is released. 360 may pass the Wii for a week, maybe 2 but after that it will drop off again. Also if Nintendo can ship enough to take advantage of Brawl and Galaxies the the 360 doesnt have a chance.

Don't be so sure of that ![]()
but seriously halo will destroy mario, defenitly during the first week. Halo 2 sold like 2 million the first week and I expect halo 3 to double that
well, you have to remember smash bros was a launch title for gamecube and that fans have been hungry for a sequel for the longest time, we will see which one sells better worwidewise :D
Everyone who bought Halo 2 will buy Halo 3. Their Xbox Live system is so popular b/c of Halo. Halo 3 will outsell SSB:B in NA for sure, but not so sure WW.
Iwata has talked about how Nintendo is focusing on America this year because of the comparably lower DS numbers, and also about how NoA is telling him that Wii is becoming a cultural phenomenom in America which they need to capitalize on. So to the threadmaker... You aren't imagining things.

No way. Lower install base, MUCH higher price threshold ($460 vs. $250), September instead of November. If Halo 3 beats Halo 2 out of the gate, it will be astounding.
