Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo quarterly sales figures update, (To 31st Dec 2020) Switch 79.87m

The evergreen titles (BotW, SMO, MKD8, etc) are insane. They probably could stop releasing new titles and still sell consoles well. Just wait for when Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury and Monster Hunter Rise release this quarter, both are system sellers.

Then we have at minimum another Pokemon and Zelda title coming... Switch is coming for that Best All Time Seller title...

Nintendo with the Switch:

What was the Switch projected unit sale for the fiscal year again? I'm betting they already beat that number with just Q3.

19 million.

Like even Sony enthusiasts wouldn't expect the Switch to sell this low

It was 24m which they indeed already exceeded with fiscal Q3. They revised it up to 26.5m now, that is under 2.5m for the final quarter.

Going into the current fiscal year, they had originally projected 19m.

They should again crush those numbers.

Paper Mario is already the second best selling Paper Mario, behind Super Paper Mario on Wii which sold 4.23 milion.

And obviously, Super Mario Party is the best selling of the franchise.

Dude, it's incredible to see Pikmin 3 at 1.94 million. Must have sold very well digitally and maybe Nintendo put a few more copies than necessary in store shelves, perhaps the next shipment update is just past 2 million. Who knows, though. All that matters is that 7 years ago I would never have associated an entry of this franchise with 2 million units. I'm so happy for this achievement.

So where's Pikmin 4, Nintendo? Seems to be the best time to publish it.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

What an absolute beast

if AC:NH keeps the momentum, it might become the first title to reach 40M units on a single platform since the Original Super Mario Bros !!

Wii Sports: 82.9M

No exclusive will ever come close, Wii Sports was the #1 reason to buy a Wii.

ACNH and MK8DX will both sell more than 50mil, 60mil at most, not more. That's already insane enough, two exclusives on the same system going both at 50mil sold units is unprecedented.

AC Nh sold almost 30 million in less than a year, by a year it may sell 30 million. Wii Sports sold 82.9 million starting from the launch of the Wii until the end. Give AC NH 6 years and let's compare then.

Both MK8 DX and ACNH are impressive titans. I wonder how much higher they'd be if they were bundled as often as SMB & Wii Sports were.

I don't see ACNH surpassing MK8DX permanently though. Maybe briefly later this year, but MK8DX will likely retake it if that happens and not look back.

What is a reasonable expectation for FY 2022? 22-24 million?

"Coming out of the fourth holiday season, global cumulative sell-through has now surpassed 74 million units.

Over 74 million units sold as of the 4th week of December.

That is...

...

...

Soul-crushingly disappointing.

Unless I'm missing something, that means it still hasn't outsold the 3DS and it is way, way, WAY over-tracked.

I am not quoting this to explain what has already been explained, but merely to say that Nintendo's official sell-through estimates are bordering on becoming worthless by now. The gap between sell-through and shipments keeps increasing with each new announcement, but we know that Switch systems aren't piling up on store shelves.

in Europe tho?  I feel I always see a bunch of them in stores like Mediamarket in Europe.
