But PS4 games aren't showing up in the rankings either...

PS Plus collection may be playing a role here.

Curious if Sony regrets that now

If I was new to PlayStation with the PS5 then I would definitely spend $60 for a year (well probably $45 with holiday discounts) on PS+ and those games will cover me for a year before I jump on PS5 games.

I'm gonna wait to get a PS5 until the price drops and software is cheaper. So maybe 2-3 years.

Dang, since the last 4 days of the year counts for next year I guess Switch will just barely miss 6 million this year. Should come very very close though.

PS5 looking very weak as we've come to expect in Japan.

Switch software dominant! RFA finally hits 2 million! AC almost 100k. Mario 3D All-Stars sneaks back in top 10. Smash one week away from being second Switch title to hit 4 million retail! And Momotaro sales are just insane.

Too bad Nintendo didn't have a big first party game for the holidays. That would have ensured Switch hitting that big 6 million mark for the year in Japan. Will be interesting to see how next year's Japan sales compare to this year and if it can go after 6 million again. Next year will have BotW2 (admittedly not as big in Japan but still big game), new model at some point, supposedly new Pokemon remake, MH Rise + MH Stories 2, possible price cut on the OG Switch depending on what the new model is, likely a few more decent system sellers, better supply throughout the year after vastly increased production this year, but Covid boost will be fading/gone, and AC and RFA boost gone. Would love to see Nintendo have enough in the pipeline for 2021 to have a huge year and break 6 million after likely just barely missing it this year.

Next week includes all the big holidays in Japan so it will be bigger than week 51, like I said we are heading for 2021 being bigger than 2020.

Once again Ring Fit supply is disappointing in Japan, must be funneling all the Ring Fit into China

Momotaro will surpass every PS4 title except Monster Hunter World by Week 1 2021

Complete Domination for the Switch! And surprise to see Clubhouse coming back to the top 10!

Last year Week 51 was the biggest Week of the holidays, this year Week 52 will be the biggest week of the holidays - so the difference of 100K make sense. Still if Nintendo actually wanted they could have easily had much stronger sales both in terms of hardware and software. If they had supplied 200K units of Ring Fit for this week I have little doubts that would have impacted hardware demand. Overall it's clear that they could have achieved 6 million this year if they prioritized Japan with Ring Fit this quarter but instead they are allowing demand to spill into 2021. Overall it's understandable considering they want to really accelerate their growth in China, South Korea, Taiwan and other Asian markets. For China Ring Fit is one of only 4 other Nintendo games officially launched in that country and is being sold with a bundle that is currently flying off the shelves.

YoY Comparisions:

  • Momotaro Dentetsu - 209.123
  • Pokemon Sword / Shield - 288.199

Momotaro is doing very well when compared to Pokemon Sword / Shield, next week it will be over 250K, so Konami is probably besides themselves with joy

  • Ring Fit Adventure - 58.654 (+18%)
  • Ring Fit Adventure - 56.861 (-2%)

The big story about this holiday season is that there is still no stock for Japan for Ring Fit Adventure to show its true potential :( Had they provided a bigger amount I'm certain YoY Software growth would have been easily achieved, now it depends on how much of a boost we see next week.

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 44.450 (+39%)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 37.835 (+69%)

Next week Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales will be over 50K, this is a game that launched in Spring 2017... Mario Kart 9 sequel is certainly not being rushed out the door.

  • Minecraft - 35.165 (+38%)
  • Minecraft - 41.907 (+67%)

Minecraft's sales are always depended on the hardware sales of the Switch, so it's not surprise that it's slightly down compared to last year this week. Next week it too is probably going to be over 50K sales.

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 33.475 (+46%)
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - 34.085 (+61%)

Impressive hold for Smash Ultimate

@RolStoppable
This year has 53 weeks.

That will do the trick, to reach 6 million.

Any predictions for out many out of 30 the Switch will get for software?
