As far as I know, "something" happened a long, long time ago, between the first and second edition if I'm not mistaken.

Besides, there's a lot of other games you like that others may have not experienced yet (Gothic, ELEX, some of the Yakuza games, ...). I'm sure you'll find something that pleases both you and your Tiny Tim.
