Forums - Sony - PS5 Biggest Console Launch In History!

So they made more PS5 units than PS4 units for the launch

Dat smooth BC with PS4 games and the most sexy Demons Souls. I have had dreams less good!!

Seriously. Not only is it a PS4.  Not only is it a PS4 Pro.  It's a PS4 Pro that can hit consistent 60fps in games with unlocked framerates.

Would have been the perfect console if they made it fully BC though.  I know it was too much to ask for, but it was still a secret hope of mine.

Yes be stubborn and don't reply to the question, if people weren't looking to buy PS5s to the point of sold out why would they pay 3x the price from scalpers?

Do you know that in Japan they have something much more robust against scalpers that is a lottery system and there were cases of people getting 50 tickets and not being granted none? Sure there is scalpers over there as well when you look their ebay. But to pretend a System that in 2013 sold out as well in launch (for 4 to 5 months it was sold out, do you think scalpers had been stockpilling for that time?), was doing over 10M per year, sold over 1M in BF in USA alone (was that scalpers years after the launch?) wouldn't be able to sell 2.5M on launch of successor? Is that really what you think?

Ok you weren't praising Xbox, but have you gone to the thread "to not be that man"?

Don, its an obvious answer, People aren't buying the consoles from the scalpers, or not majority of people. That doesn't matter anyway because the consoles have already technically sold so its already counted as a sale because the scalpers have brought them and horded them.

To be perfectly honest Don, i havn't been paying attention to the Xbox forums, and i couldn't care. I only heard about this news recently and this is the first article i found.

Explain it to me as if I'm 5 years old. So do you really think PS5 wouldn't be sold out if scalpers weren't buying them?

It's gonna an interesting race to follow. PS5 vs XBS, PS5 vs PS4, PS5 vs Switch. The next few months will be very interesting!

Signature goes here!

ofcourse they have been stockpiling since 2019

My opinion, no. It definitely helps to sell out when scalpers scrap the shops clean and in this case, they did with both the PS5 and XSX. I don't think the Nvidia 30 Series cards would have sold out either.

That's my opinion on the matter, we would never know because we are in a situation where we have this issue with stock. In the end, they did sell out, but is it to actual customers is the bigger question for me.

People used to say home console are going to die

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

That's not one scalper. It's an estimate of all the consoles scalpers got a hold of in the UK. I was wondering what you were driving at with your initial post, thinking you may actually be saying the reason for the sellout was due to scalping.......PUUHLEAAESSE. People are constantly trying to get a hold of them. I would be shocked if say, 100,000 units are in the hands of scalpers worldwide. I mean, to go even further, and say 200,000, which is an overly generous figure, that's less than 10% of the window for estimated sales. How you can think those wouldn't have been sold is beyond me. There's no basis to be making such a claim.

I don't make the news, just reporting whats being said. I can say this, in Australia the same issue has arose, no stores have stock but you look online and the stock is on 3rd party sites. Besides i never said it wouldn't have sold out, i just said we wouldn't actually know. Scalpers are buying into thousands and thousands of stock. Also what figures are you going by? How do you know how much stock the scalpers have brought into?

Did you not hear the issue with pre-ording the systems? Did you not hear all the complaining that people couldn't place a pre-order on pre-order night? Hmmmmmmmmm i wonder why.

Just 1 UK scalper group managed to buy 3500 PS5s, having more stock than some actual online retailers. That's just one group in the UK.

So when you say "I dont want to be that guy but Scalpers also have a major part in this story unfortantly" (sic), the implication is.....nothing? Nothing to do with anything regarding sales, sales potential or any aspect of the launch numbers themselves. You must have simply come into this thread to mention it is unfortunate that scalpers have been buying consoles, and you don't appreciate the practice, right?  You just did so in an very obtuse, awkward, almost unbelievable manner, instead of simply stating as much to begin with....bullshit.

And you're asking ME what figures I'm going by when you say, again, "I dont want to be that guy but Scalpers also have a major part in this story unfortantly". (sic)

Well what's the story? The story of the most successful launch in history. " Scalpers also have a major part in this story" How major? Where are YOUR numbers?

And of course, none of this matters, because a sale is #1, a sale, and #2, some of theses scalped units will be repurchased on the secondary market. This type of activity only happens when items are expected to be IN DEMAND. You realize that's how this works, right?

So please explain to me how if the console wouldn't sold out without scalpers how will the scalpers sell it for 2 or 3x the price?

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

For the scalpers arguement since the convo hasn't gotten anywhere:

1) the demand is there. Scalpers or not MS and Sony would have sold every unit. The amount of people trying to get one is unreal.

2) there is no evidence the guy scalped 3500 ps5s. Whoever did it would have needed £1.5 million.

3) even if 10% of stock went to scalpers, that would still make it the biggest launch for 1.5 week of sales.

4) by Jan PS4 had sold 4.2 million units. Baring in mind that Sony hasnt just sold the initial shipment, but they have also sold the top of stock and the 3rd set of stock released here and there.
