Is the advertising on VGChartz too much?

Yes 31 79.49%

No 2 5.13%

Don't care as I'm an entitled fuck 6 15.38%

Total:39

Personally, I do want to avoid adblock so I can support the site despite not having a subscription. But when you have a giant unskippable ad blocking 2/3 of the page and with an admin literally recommending you to use an adblock...yeah it is hard to go for it it lol

We (the staff working on the site) can't do anything about the ads unfortunately. If they're going to drive you away from the site then I'd urge you to use some sort of adblock or consider becoming a supporter.

Based on this reply and several others in this thread, it sounds like anyone with actual decision making ability has no involvement with this site.  Is that correct?  All decision makers are totally not involved?  To me it sounds like it is so extreme that they don't care if this website succeeds or fails.  Is this true, or am I misunderstanding this situation?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

It seems like this person should delegate more authority and decision making ability to someone on this site.  (Someone like Machina, for example.)  Because the ads can even prevent people from clicking on certain buttons like "reply".  Even if the size and number of ads isn't changed, something needs to be done about how the ads interfere with the basic functionality of the site.

On that point directly - that sounds like a bug, or at the very least something unintentional about the ad, and the site devs could probably move the ad without needing ioi's permission. That's kind of what Talon made this thread for - https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/241912/report-all-advertisment-issues-here

not sure why, but that link is broken for me.

Kind of useless information, but the link also works just by adding a slash at the end: https://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread/241912/report-all-advertisment-issues-here/

I'm mostly a lurker now.

Yes they are intrusive, and because I can't install anything on company PC they are always in the way, covering more than half the screen, and sometimes the whole screen.Worse yet the money go entirely to ioi while the mods work for free and writers for peanuts.

Maybe the site staff should create a thread like "For only 18$ you can get rid of all ads on VGC for 1 year, free trial for 1 month".

Is it true that 100% of the money (minus fees) goes to the people that actually do the work?

Yes that's true. All of the proceeds from the Supporter system go directly to an account owned by Trucks and are periodically distributed to the staff. The most recent split was 60% to the devs and 40% to the writing staff budget. Brett/ioi doesn't take anything from the Supporter fund.

In that case, I'll pay for gold next time (assuming I'm not dead broke).  There's clearly a lot of work being done to keep this site going, and I imagine you all are making shit money for it.
