Forums - Sony Discussion - Rumor- Sony looking to buy Bluepoint Games

Well they are a solid remaster studio. They can spend generations remastering old gems

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

This kind of acquisition makes sense as the studio have a long history with Sony, know their IP's and style and deliver with the games. And they don't currently make games for other platforms so would therefore not disadvantage anyone - it would make sense to bring the brilliant team into Playstation Studios. Now get them to make a Resistance: Fall of Man Remaster

A leaker over on ResetEra claims to have 2 separate sources who told him that Sony plans to acquire Bluepoint Games. Supposedly Sony has been very pleased with the work Bluepoint has done for Sony as a 2nd party studio over the years, working on God of War Collection, The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Vita Port, Flower PS4 and Vita ports, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Gravity Rush Remastered, Shadow of the Colossus remake, and Demon's Souls remake. Meanwhile he says that Bluepoint wants to be acquired because they don't want to be known as just a remake studio and want a shot at an original IP. He says that the acquisition deal is being finalized and will be announced no later than February 28th.

Take this leak with a grain of salt because neither of the leakers 2 sources were verified by Era's mods.

Damn that's a real positive for Playstation. Getting a remaster studio would be great to maybe get those PS2 mascot games, ie) Jake and Daxter and maybe Sly. Would fall in line with their rhetoric of wanting to grow more organically (establish a business relationship and then purchase).

Does this count as a positive Sony thread?

Bluepoint would be a good acquisition for Sony considering how many successful games they've made for them.

It would burst my dream of Nintendo buying Bluepoint, and letting Bluepoint remaster NES/SNES/N64/GC/Wii libraries.... so many great titles that Bluepoint could modernize.

This is one of those that makes sense. They basically only work with Sony anyway and are not a large publisher to just open a checkbook on. It's just taking an existing handshake deal of a partner and making it a sure thing.

Honestly the quality they keep, there is no shame it in either.
They are probably the best studio in the world at doing remasters.

I think Sony should buy them, reguardless of if they want to try makeing original content or not.
Sony cant afford to lose them, their remaster ability should be enough to want to have them on your team (imo).

That's one heck of a dream, considering Bluepoint hasn't worked on a single Nintendo game yet. Almost all of the games they've done over the years were for Sony, with the exceptions being some work on the MGS Collection for Xbox 360 and the Titanfall 360 port.

Which always seemed like a missed opportunity, for whatever reason.  I dream of Bluepoint handling Ocarina, Skyward, Twilight, Prime Trilogy, Pikmin and so many others.  But yeah, there is a reason why it was always a dream.

you know... your dream isn't absurd... i mean Marco Thrush and Andy O'Neil, key figures of the studio, both worked on Metroid games in the past so... yeah, they most likely have contacts within Nintendo.

edit: my mistake... Sadly Andy O'Neil died last year, my condolences.

In this very thread, another ResetEra "insider" Okabe, teased the possibility of Sony buying Capcom. Apparently he has ties to Capcom, but I'm not sure what kind of leaks he has gotten right before, aside from the recent Price of Persia remake/remaster.

Edit: Well, MaximillionDood, who has some industry sources knows Okabe lol.
