Forums - Sony Discussion - Critics agree that Sony's PS5 transcends on-paper comparisons to Xbox, and is the only new console that "feels" next-gen from the first moment

Is PS5 the only gen 9 system?

I'm not sure I dig the "cards" feature. Part of the fun of Spiderman PS4 was swinging around New York on the way to an objective, having something catch your eye and opt to do that instead. I guess you don't have to use it but I feel it breaks the pace of the game, making it just a series of missions.

Could be a major QoL feature if utilized right or even if we could customize it. The big draw, potentially, is the ability to hop in online matchmaking right from the UI, instead of booting the game up and going through game menus.

we will have less loadtimes in general this is a bit double innit?

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

It's still a massive QoL improvement that adds accessibility in how you play. By the time the game loads, you might already be in a match, rather than starting the game up, navigating menus, and then initiating matchmaking.

Did the Switch controllers get as much praise, or games that utilized the controller features, like the Dualsense?

No.

I mean, according to Platinum, Switch is the only next gen. I kind of agree, but am giddy at the prospect of opening my XSX tomorrow :)

Yeah it's hardly a comparison. PS5 has a bunch of new features, has actually been UNDERPLAYING a bunch of its capabilities (They didn't even come close to letting people know how good their backwards compatibility is, and according to digital foundry it's amazing), and it actually has games. PErsonally, I don't think theHaptic Feedback and stuff is going to be as impressive or game-changing as a lot of people say, it's a gimmick, but a lot of the UI, features, abilities, and general feel of the console is new. The Series X, as best I can tell, might as well be an Xbox One with better hardware. I'm not getting any feel of innovation there, just a stronger version of what we already have. Oh, and no games. Couldn't even get a Halo game for Launch, and what they did show looked more like an early Xbox One game than a console defining leap in performance and innovation that it should have. the Middle-tier game Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart looked more impressive than Halo.

Ratchet and Clank looked more impressive than anything else at Sony's show. And, yeah, it looked WAY better than Infinite.

I agree, but it seems to be personal taste. And yes people, the switch received such levels of hype for its controller, but aside from a few games it was never used and people moved on. So its up to sony to inovate and maybe third partys will adopt the innovation.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Boy this seems like a Sony circlejerk thread.PS5 is not the only "true next gen" console. If controllers are what you think makes a next gen console then Nintendo is the only one who consistently brings about controller innovations. Also, PS4s dualshock had differences between the Xbox controller too. They were seldom used (except initially) and sometimes even got in the way (lightbar). They are gimmicks, pure and simple. Could they be good gimmicks? Hell yeah...but they are still gimmicks.Other things...the card system is interesting, but I don't think that makes it next gen. The Xbox has a quick resume feature for like 10 different games that PS5 doesn't...so the features are different. Want to talk about Project Tempest I raise you Project Acoustic. Want to talk about the SSD I raise you better CPU/GPU capabilities and the velocity architecture. These consoles are going toe to toe, and it's a good thing. Quit with the "one true king" approach, it just seems creepy.
