Since there seems to be confusion regarding what PS5 BC will really be and what have Sony claimed or not I'm making this thread.
Basically so far Sony confirmed that 10 titles wouldn work on PS5 (and dev of 2 of those games already claimed they are working to make them work).
Also we need to remember that Sony put the logic on PS4 and PS4Pro on PS5 meaning it is Hardware BC, so yes it is expected since the beggining that most games would work (making those silly jabs that only 100 games would work, because Cerny said they tested the top100 played games of the year and they all worked fine, pretty silly).
Sony also made 2 distinct disclaimers on the 10 games list, first that it was subject to change and second that there were more games that weren't fully working, meaning they could crash, have bugs or some features not working. Also there is the mention that cross save would be a decision of each dev. There is also the question of improvements, some games will receive better res/fps when the original had it unlocked (fps) and variable res, others will receive free updates and some will have you pay for it (haven't seem a list yet), from the free updates some special conditions may apply like needing a specific edition.
Also important to note, if you buy a disc PS5 you may insert a PS4 disc and it will be readily playable after install without any need of internet or patching (you may patch it to get benefits from updates, etc), also digital content you bought on PS4 may be downloaded to PS5 disc or discless and also work without a need to patch. You can also transfer install and saves with your external HDD or SSD.
PS4 only games:
While the majority of PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles, below is a list of PS4 games that are playable on PS4 only. On PlayStation™Store, PS4 games that are not playable on the PS5 console will be marked with ‘Playable on: PS4 only’.
- Although many PS4 games are playable on PS5 consoles, some functionalities that were available on the PS4 console may not be available on PS5 consoles. In addition, some PS4 games may exhibit errors or unexpected behavior when played on PS5 consoles.
DWVR (Dev is working on both making it BC and also having an upgrade for PS5)
Afro Samurai 2 Revenge of Kuma Volume One
TT Isle of Man - Ride on the Edge 2
Just Deal With It!
Shadow Complex Remastered
Robinson: The Journey
We Sing
Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
Shadwen
Joe's Diner
This list is subject to change and excludes demos, media, and non-game applications.
"DWVR dev here. I’m working on a patch to fix the issue. Hopefully, it can arrive before the PS5 releases. I will also see if the game can be improved for that PS5 Boost Mode, but need to experiment a lot first."
This means that besides the list growing if test fails it also means that in the end all games could be BC if the dev decides to patch it (don't think most will do it since those aren't really heavy sellers).

So the claims that Sony wasn't being transparent is unfounded.
Now discuss as you wish.
