Yeah, where does this guy think he is, a site dedicated to tracking video game sales and charts? Shame on him for staying on brand!

Video game sales have really seen a strong uptick since the lockdowns started mainly because people are at home and many other recreational activities became infeasible or inconvenient. Playing video games has become one of the most popular pastimes of 2020.
That being said, the lockdowns are getting a lot more authoritarian in many places of the world and the reason for this is political not based on the actual danger of Covid19. The virus is cover for the structural failure in western society where the ruling class is trying to maintain control over a population that is becoming increasingly distrustful of them. The increasing restrictions that are being placed on people is claimed to be because of the growing infection rates of Covid while the corporate mainstream media ignores the fact that the death-rate from the virus is falling like a rock. People in Europe are the first who are coming to realize that the lockdown is a power grab and is a permanent removal of their freedoms and so this region is rapidly growing unstable. As a result, I am not sure if video game sales will be strong in Europe in the future. I am unsure how much this will impact Sony's launch window but they have the most to lose in this market.
Console sales benefited from the initial year of the lockdown when people were happy to sit at home and wait for things to get better, but when people realize that things are getting worse and worse every year and that their freedoms are being permanently taken away and won't come back then console sales will start to suffer as priorities start to shift away from entertainment due to people starting to experience panic as well as from the intense loss of freedom in these regions. This will eventually come to Japan and North America as well but is probably still a couple of years away. The long-term future for video game sales this decade probably isn't great but in the short term sales will be strong and so Nintendo, Sony and MS should take advantage of the window as much as possible while it is available to them.

Well, liquor stores were kept open as essential services too. Gotta give people entertainment to keep em sane. ;)
Seriously though I live here and I didn't even realize EB stayed open; I never dared go to any shopping areas during the second wave.
