What is the best way to refer to Microsoft's next generation console(s)? I have seen so many wild variations already. Of course we can use the proper names Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X when referring to the individual consoles and their unique specifications. But what if I want to refer to them collectively as Microsoft's 4th generation of console, especially in relation to the PlayStation 5? We need a shorthand version, something intuitive and catchy for when we are posting on the forums.

Here are some options:

Xbox Series S | X

Xbox Series

Xbox SSX

Xbox SEX

Xbox SAX (Series S AND X)

Xbox XS

Xbox SX

Xbox 4

X 📦 S X

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

It would be referenced by Microsoft as Xbox Series X|S (at least according to peripheral packaging). So maybe that's the better option.

I think this is best. Nice and clean. As simple as they could make it I guess.

So you are willing to type out Xbox Series X|S every time you want to talk about the console? It's a mouthful so to speak. I didn't even type it out for this message but copy and pasted it from the post above.

It's only a couple extra keystrokes from Xbox Series X, which I never had much problems typing. Once you actually remember where the '|' key is, it's not too big a hassle. But it can obviously be shortened to XSX|S, or Xbox Series. People should recognise either.

For purposes of hardware tracking, we are planning on using Xbox Series.

What about for software tracking? The site uses the (XOne) abbreviation for Xbox One software.

Xbox Series X|S and the abbreviation XSX|S or XSXS because special characters are frowned upon for abbreviations.

I reckon you could even get away with X|S.
