Series S pricepoint is pretty fucking huge. $299 straight off the bat. Probably £250 over here in the UK? Next gen console for the same price as current gen machines is ridiculous.

Incredibly tempted.

No way would it be that low. You have to factor in VAT as well

I would say £279 or even £289.

Microsoft have already confirmed a £249 price. VERY tempting!

£249 in the UK...

I guess the British Isles will be green again then.

Love the price of the S, Not a huge fan of the look but who cares with that price lol. I thought the X looked like a subwoofer but then this looks even moreso lol

My only concern is 512GB doesn't seem like a lot for a digital only console.

Any larger though and it could effect the price which would defeat the purpose of the console.

I suppose the target audience will only have a rotating roster of cod's, fifas and fortnite. Should be enough for a minimum of 6 months to a year.

Will be problematic for Gamepass users though.

Yep that is very low here is a few comparisons:

- Same RRP as the PS4 and Xbox One S currently are

- £179 cheaper than the Xbox One at launch

- £100 cheaper than the PS4 at launch

- £30 cheaper than the Nintendo Switch

If that size is indeed the case for this console, I can't help but think of the foot-in-door tactic MS is doing with proprietary memory expansions.  That's going to cost a pretty penny.

Not sure if this person from Twitter is reliable but he tweeted some of the spec (needs to be confirmed?).

https://twitter.com/Nibellion

- 60% smaller than XSX
- Custom NVME SSD (512 GB)
- All-digital - 1440p up to 120 FPS
- Ray-Tracing support
- 4K media playback
- 4K game upscaling
- Variable rate shading
- Variable refresh rate
- ultra-low latency

If its wrong then please ignore my post :)

Here’s hoping this forces Sony to do a $349-399 PS5 DE. Could affect the other console prices too. Gamers win.

I think the regular PS5 unit should be able to match the Series X without any issues. But the Series S price could be too steep for the disc-less PS5 unit. Unless Sony wants to start the generation by selling that SKU at a hefty loss (presumably) then, they'll be at notable price disadvantage.

Sony won't price match because there's absolutely no need for them to do so.

If they deliver a $399 PS5 digital, they're still comfortably in business.

A $399 PS5 would slaughter Xbox. I don't see that happening though. PS5 is probably $500.

Wait so it has the same CPU as the Series X, paired up with a weak GPU? This thing better come with  3-6 months of Gamepass Ultimate!

I wouldn't call it weak, it has just enough juice to do what MS intends it to do, play next-gen games at 1080p-1440p. Digital Foundry did a video earlier this year where they downclocked a Radeon RX 5500 XT to 4.3 tflop, about what Series S has, and compared it against the 9.2 tflop 5700 XT (which is a bit less than the TFLOP rating of the PS5). These were the results:

Hitman 2- Console Quality settings

GPU 1080p 1440p 4K
RX 5500 XT (4.3 TFLOP) 80.9 FPS Average 58.2 FPS 32.5 FPS
RX 5700 XT (9.2 TFLOP) 62.4 FPS

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus- Console quality settings

GPU 1080p 1440p 4K
RX 5500 XT (4.3 TFLOP) 149 FPS 98 FPS 48 FPS
RX 5700 XT (9.2 TFLOP) 92 FPS

Control- Console Quality Settings

GPU 1080p 1440p 4K
RX 5500 XT (4.3 TFLOP) 61 FPS 37 FPS 17 FPS
RX 5700 XT (9.2 TFLOP) 37 FPS

What do those results show? Well basically, that the 4 TFLOP Series S should be able to play the same games that the 10.3 tflop (or less depending on how the variable clock works) PS5 plays at native 4K, at somewhere between 1080p and 1440p depending on each game, with the game graphics settings from the PC version.

Well we're comparing current gen game performance on a next gen system. But despite that I think Control is the best comparison, since it is pretty graphics intensive. I really wish DF had included 1080p and 1440p numbers for the 5700 XT. The drop off from 1440p to 4K is huge.

I still have the Fat Xbox One so this is a very good upgrade for me.
With the quantity of cross gen games in the next 2 years and backward compatibility this console is a very good option.
The 512 SSD dont be a problem if i can conect my HDD in the usb port and transfer the games i want to play in the moment.
I only have digital games and gamepass, so this is perfect for me and can allow me to buy a PS5 depending of the games .

Sorry for my bad english.

This is a really good deal to get into next-gen gaming. It's the same price as the PS4 and Xbox S (I fully expect these prices to drop) and the Nintendo Switch. This is a fantastic deal to get for kids, casuals, and those who cannot spend much money cause stupid virus.

Wait so will yhe Series S not atleast support 4k streaming for Netflix or YouTube?

Price is amazing but it looks meh in white with a big black circle. I believe it would look super nice all black or white, but not a mix.
Anyway, nice to see this being official, going to get 4 of those babies for the kids!
