These new cards finally mean that maxed out 4k 60fps across the board is now possible, including Ray Tracing thanks to DLSS.

I reallllllly wanna see when the 3060 is announced how much better it is than the new consoles compared to it's price.

I think some are saying the 3080 can do 4k60 with rt without the need for dlss. you can probably push 120fps with dlss. At least going with the digital foundry video and adding previously known 2080 performance.

I think so too but I was just trying to be conservative with my estimates.
I still think the absolute maximum settings for Cyberpunk with maximum Global Illumination will probably need DLSS for 60fps at 4k. Obviously we'll see but I think your standard COD:BOCW will max out visuals and RTX 4k60 without the need for DLSS.

So, I'm wondering whether the 3090 is simply a "new" Titan type GPU, or is it meant to replace the Ti version of --80? Will a 3080 Ti show up in 6-12 months? I'm getting a new GPU this gen for sure, but if there's a 3080 Ti on the horizon, I'll hold off and get everything I need all at once when it arrives (need more RAM, bigger PSU and a 4K monitor).

It may/may not replace the TITAN. One way to know — when the Quadro is released, if it has the same amount of CUDAs, then the 3090 is this gen's TITAN. If it has a bit more, with more VRAM, then I'd expect a new TITAN at some point. The 3090 isn't the full-fat either, so there's still a possibility of a faster card that way as well (although that could be a 3090 "Black" type situation rather than a TITAN). Plus, there's stuff that TITAN cards generally have that only how up in Quadro cards, such as TCC mode (the 3090 doesn't have this). TITAN is considered "Prosumer" considering it straddles the line of Consumer and Professional (a stop gap to Quadro), while the 3090 is simply the best "gaming card" that will come from the 3000 series.

NVIDIA knows what they're doing. I mean, why not just call this a TITAN? In my eyes, because they wanted to emphasize that this is a gaming card. Can't do that with a TITAN. Plus, recent TITANs have been unveiled long after the new series (this happened with both Pascal and Turing).

So.....yeah. :P

If thats the case, when the ti's come out next year or so, you think they also make a 3090ti? Cuz with the 20's the 2080ti dint get a super.

Not good enough, RDNA2 will beat it.

RDNA2 will likely beat the 3070, and come close to the 3080 (likely still be below it).
Theres no way AMD makes a card that can compete with the 3090 though.

Its a 350-400watt monster of a GPU.
AMD refuse to make cards with chips that big, or that go into that wattage.

they dont even need to, thats not where the competition is.

They where only able to compete with the 70 before, now they will step it up be be able to compete with the 80. Thats more than enough for amd to shake things up in the gpu space like they did in the cpu space with ryzen.

Thanks for the input! My ideal card would be a 3080Ti, it sits right at that sweet spot for performance and cost for me. My 980Ti was perfect when I got it. Should we expect news on more cards sometime before the holidays or right after new year? I seem to recall that they announce upgrades and new versions early in Q1 after the new generation launches during fall/late summer the year before.

Once the performance graphs are fully available we'll see if it makes sense, but it looks like we'll have a 3080ti as there is a huge price difference between $699 and $1499. A $1000 3080Ti seems likely.

Also a 3070 TI

Did they use the term DLSS 3.0 or is that upgrade available to current 20 cards as well?

As far as I can tell, it's available to 2000 series cards as well.

There is no 3.0 as of yet.

20 cards from the bargain bin look pretty promising then. Looking at an 2060S for 199.

Halo products are important. Ryzen did well because it was crushing Intel in the high end as well as midrange. If Ryzen was only midrange then they wouldn't even have a fraction of the success.

While having the performance of a 3080 is good, it's still a tough sell since it is lacking all the features Nvidia has to offer. Simply being as fast as a 3080 will not be enough for AMD to succeed. Nvidia also has plenty of head room to lower prices and they have shown in the past that they are willing to do so when competing with AMD.

True, but the first ryzen dint beat the intel top end. ryzen plus stil dint beat intel top end. ryzen 2 beat it, while maybe not in gaming, multythread performance is unmatched.and now ryzen 3 is said to bury intel.

I think rdna is going in the same direction. rdna1 competitive in the low end, rdna2 competing in the mid range, then next year rdna 3 competing in the high end. this wont be the same case as intel, cuz intel screwed up massively while amd improved. and still refused to drop prices until now that they are obsolete. Nvedia dint screw up, they still offer great improvements and it seems they are anticipating competition so they priced cordingly, so amd will not be beating them, they will at best be competitive.

True, having a halo product is really good for pr. But i really think pr is not so prevalent on this market as this market is well educated and does research before a purchase. So if a halo product is out of their reach, they will research what is in their reach.

Thats true, amd is definetly behind in the features department. we still have no clue how their ray tracing is coming along. we dont even know if they are doing a dlss approach. if all these features do suck or dont even have them, then the only thing they could do is lower prices. like the 5700xt. even if it match the 2070s it still dint have the features so they had to cost way less. and even then people preferred the 2070s because those features are worth it.
