So, I'm wondering whether the 3090 is simply a "new" Titan type GPU, or is it meant to replace the Ti version of --80? Will a 3080 Ti show up in 6-12 months? I'm getting a new GPU this gen for sure, but if there's a 3080 Ti on the horizon, I'll hold off and get everything I need all at once when it arrives (need more RAM, bigger PSU and a 4K monitor).

It may/may not replace the TITAN. One way to know — when the Quadro is released, if it has the same amount of CUDAs, then the 3090 is this gen's TITAN. If it has a bit more, with more VRAM, then I'd expect a new TITAN at some point. The 3090 isn't the full-fat either, so there's still a possibility of a faster card that way as well (although that could be a 3090 "Black" type situation rather than a TITAN). Plus, there's stuff that TITAN cards generally have that only how up in Quadro cards, such as TCC mode (the 3090 doesn't have this). TITAN is considered "Prosumer" considering it straddles the line of Consumer and Professional (a stop gap to Quadro), while the 3090 is simply the best "gaming card" that will come from the 3000 series.

NVIDIA knows what they're doing. I mean, why not just call this a TITAN? In my eyes, because they wanted to emphasize that this is a gaming card. Can't do that with a TITAN. Plus, recent TITANs have been unveiled long after the new series (this happened with both Pascal and Turing).

So.....yeah. :P

Thanks for the input! My ideal card would be a 3080Ti, it sits right at that sweet spot for performance and cost for me. My 980Ti was perfect when I got it. Should we expect news on more cards sometime before the holidays or right after new year? I seem to recall that they announce upgrades and new versions early in Q1 after the new generation launches during fall/late summer the year before.
