Forums - General - Apple: Gaming Services (Google Stadia & Microsoft xCloud) Violate App Store Guidelines

And then it really falls apart when you realize iOS has Netflix, Youtube and Spotify which they can't curate those either. If anything, they are doing this due to Apple Arcade since xCloud could persuade Apple Arcade users to use xCloud instead as they are both subscription services but the games on xCloud are leagues better.

The rules seemingly only apply to games and apps. Like, it's okay to use an app as a method to deliver music and movies, but not the apps or games. Also, as far as I know, you can't subscribe to Spotify through iOS app, because Spotify doesn't want to pay Apple 30%.

That seems to be the case. I have PlayStation Video, Netflix, Hulu, WWE Network, MLB.TV, Disney+, Amazon Prime, Amazon Music, and Spotify on my iPhone, and I don't purchase from or subscribe to any of them through Apple.

This is why I always had a problem with Apple. They treat games and gamers like trash. I jumped on with the iPhone 11 for the Apple Arcade, but the games have turned out to be terrible. If things don't change by next year, I will try my luck on Android.

This is why we need a Nintendo, Sony, or Microsoft Handheld Phone. The 3G Vita was the peak of Mobile Gaming.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I would argue that Switch does it's work great for mobile gaming. And it already does it better than any phone potentially can in the future.

Honestly, in my point of view, these monopolistic practices should be illegal. I don't see why Apple is so immune.

I have to write an article about some aspect of entertainment for a law journal, so it could be interesting topic.

Based on my (VERY limited) knowledge, it would depend on leverage. Microsoft and Google are huge companies, and have enough strength that Apple can't essentially dictate whatever terms they want. They still have real competition in the market, based on the existence of PC/Steam/Android/Switch/Sony, so it'd be a little hard to make an anti-trust claim.

Could definitely be interesting.

However, in this case Microsoft and Google are direct competitors to Apple for streaming game services. The others not so much. Since the apps being blocked are purely streaming service, on that aspect alone it could be anti-trust and a means to block competition. We know what happened to Microsoft when they played foul with Netscape, I'm surprised that this kind of thing isn't being taken seriously nowadays.

And, if the courts are not taking care of it, at least people should be bothered by it. In the days of Netscape, Microsoft was public enemy #1 for its behavior. Today people seem complacent with this kind of monopolistic practice, I think it's a bad sign.

Really depends. Does apple have a similar competing service? Apple Arcade is sort of a competitor but not really. To what extend do these services need to be playable on IOS to succeed? I don't think it's vital. And would the task of submitting games individually for Apple's review pose a huge barrier?

In a nutshell, anti-trust laws kick in when one player has so much power that others have to agree to whatever demands they make. I really don't think that's quite the case here.

if google is smart they will allow xcloud in the play store instead of the bypass done via the samsung store

It's already the case

My plan was to buy a decent Android tablet for it, anyway.

"Microsoft will end its free xCloud preview on September 11th, and the company is planning to launch an updated Xbox Game Pass app with game streaming on September 15th. Interestingly, the versions that will be published on the One Store in Korea and Galaxy Store for Samsung users globally will both include “in-app purchase capabilities,” according to Microsoft, suggesting that the Google Play Store version will not."

lets call it halfsies?

Reasons why I continue to be an Android user... If Google pulls something like this, I can side load apps all day long without needing to root/jailbreak.

You can sideload in iOS without jailbreak... the issue here is that the system would need an .ipa file to sideload in the first place, and we don't have a full fledged one just yet.

But yeah, fuck BOTH. I'm going Huawei just so spite them.

Yes, the service does not use GMS and even if it does you can install microG to use the services without Google knowing.

I'm with Apple on this.

MS has to follow the rules like everybody else. If there's a game on Game Pass that Apple doesn't approve of or doesn't meet their standards then how can they stop it from being played on their platform without reviewing it first?

MS has enough $$$ to pay to submit each game for review. MS should just stop complaining and pay up.
