Zelda having more sales than Pokemon is the shocker here! Even outselling Mario! :O hori sheit!

Not when you factor in how much difference it is from past titles as it has more in common with games like GTA than prior titles.

No one predicted this high AC numbers.
I think the highest prediction was T-bone's at 19.5M

People are remembering the huge cliff of the Wii and fans are worried the same will happen with the Switch.

Wii sold 25.95m during it's peak fiscal year.  After that it sold another 51.25m.  This is Switch's peak fiscal year and 25.95m is a pretty decent estimate.  If Switch sells this and has the same decline as the Wii, then lifetime sales end up at 132.98m.  That is what a "crash and burn" scenario looks like for the Switch.  People are thinking crash and burn is like 100m-110m.  No, crash and burn is 133m.  Wii had weak first party games and weak third party games (other than Just Dance) after 2009.  And if Switch fizzles out, then yeah it will sell 133m.  That is a pessimistic number that is feasible.

On the other hand, the likelyhood of Switch going to a crash and burn scenario is small.  Wii had no Pokemon games, which Switch will likely get 2 more (a port and a new one).  BotW2 is going to be far more popular than Skyward Sword, and Nintendo is going to keep a steady flow of games on the Switch until it's ready to replace it.  Western Devs are going to keep porting PS4 games over, because that is easy money.  Japanese devs are just getting started putting brand new 3rd party games on Switch.  It is far more likely that Switch will not crash and burn.

It is far more likely that Switch will sell a lot more than that 133m crash and burn scenario.

I wouldn't be surprised if Skyward Sword HD releases and is more popular than it's Wii counterpart. That game just released at an awkward time, on a an awkward system.

Nintendo Switch Quarterly Hardware & Evergreen Software

AC launched to amazing first ~10 day sales of over 11 million, then still sold 10 million the first full quarter. That is just insane. I wonder if it is gonna still be over like 5 million this quarter, then omg its first holiday quarter wow it seems destined to hit 30 million in just over 9 months on the market. Sales outside of Japan must be way higher than I expected.

If you had told me 3 years ago that the biggest and fastest selling game on the Switch was going to be Animal Crossing... Over Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Pokemon Gen 8, and Breath of the Wild, I would never have believed you.

This is game is truly a phenomenon. I haven't seen a killer app of this magnitude since Wii Sports!

I would have told you that three years ago, outside of Mario Kart. I'm going by DS sales, but still, it's already almost DOUBLED AC: Wild World sales!

Would have had my doubts with Pokemon, but despite it's still tremendous popularity, I think franchise fatigue and disdain over decisions with the newest games are still factors. 3D Mario and any form of Zelda never stood a chance.

People always say "MPZ" when talking about Nintendo's biggest IPs for "Mario Pokemon Zelda", but it should really be "MK-AC-SSB".

Your new lords have spoken.

Yeah in terms of single player games Zelda and now AC are clearly the killer apps of the Switch. Obviously Smash and MK are the multiplayer killer apps. Zelda outselling Mario and even Pokemon shows just how crucial it has been to the success of the Switch.

This has nothing to do with the Switch, which is of course doing amazing, but the software/hardware attach rate on the WiiU was actually pretty good now that I saw it:

Wii U
Hardware: 13.56 million units
Software: 103.21 million units

Every other poor WiiU owner like myself got close to having 10 games more or less. I would honestly think that number to be higher on Switch by now considering the people that I know. Most have a loooooot of games for it, and I am one of those lol. Unless I failed to see something (and, of course, 13,5 mil hardware makes it obviously a way different situation than 62 mil like the Switch), the hybrid could be past 500mil SW with a similar rate. Maybe a large portion of Switch owners buy it for AC, MK and Smash/Pokemon (or some other game) only?

Here is sales in Japan and outside of Japan for all major sellers.  Only MK8D/ACNH/BOTW/SSBU have been updated for the current fiscal year so far (Nintendo will provide updates to others in the coming quarters once they cross the 1M threshold in FY20).

Top list is JP by Fiscal Year.  Bottom list is Overseas by Fiscal Year.

In the holiday quarter Nintendo tends to move around 9-10m units so what is sold this quarter is going to be interesting as it could lead to NS having around 75m plus units move by the end of the year this effectively catches up to the 3DS which has been on the market for 9 years and sets up an insane 2021.

I bought it for SSB and Fire Emblem.

Playing Xenoblade 2 before I buy Xenoblade 3 (otherwise I couldn't wait to play 3).

Can they announce a new Fire Emblem? A remake of Genealogy or Tellius would suffice !
