Forums - Gaming - should games be desexified while every other social media focusses on sex and appeal?

I am an Adult. If I want sexualized thematics in my video games during my down time, then I want them.

If you don't like sexualized themes in your video games, don't buy them, it's as simple as that... If you don't want your kids access to those games, then don't let them have access to it, but everyone shouldn't be "punished" due to a few individuals who are against sexualized content.

Do I disagree. Well no, but I also think Bayonetta is the most sexualized character...

The porn thing was just an example. Just like a strong woman fighting angels and demons vs girls playing volleyball. What has the plot to do with the character being sexualized? Ok, so her game has a better story... Good for her I guess. The women in DOAX wants to win the volleyball game. Seems like a good enough motivation to me. Its not epic, but the game isnt an epic adventure.

First of all, the difference is that volleyball premise was specifically an excuse to get the girls in bikinis.  Let's not pretend otherwise. I mean, they have a "butt battle" mode. When the scenario is designed specifically to give gamers a chance to ogle the characters, that's sexualization. There's a reason this isn't Dead of Alive Xtreme Soccer.

Second of all, it's not a matter of better story, it's a matter of the character actually having development and personality beyond "look tits". Wanting to win a game tells us very little about what kind of a person someone is. Going to hell to rescue your friend tells you a lot about what kind of person Bayonetta is. We also see through the story that she can be nurturing, clever, and compassionate. Being a tease is just one part of her personality, but there's actually others.

Honestly... if you don't think this...

Is more sexualized than this...

Then that's a you problem.

In DOAX from what I know theres a photoshoot mode. Thats a pretty good reason for women to act sexy. But of course the game is made because sex sells and the developers just wanted to make a sexy game. Not denying that. They really have no reason to do the sexy things they do for any reason than sex sells.

However, if Bayonetta is such a deep character compared to the ones I mentioned, then why does she act in that sexy way? What is her motivation for doing so? What in her background made her that way?

...or was this also just because sex sells?

Because she likes doing sexy things. Again, I never said she was not a sexual character. I just said that's only part of her character, and really not the biggest part.

But you said she's the most sexualized characters... And again, she's not fighting other girls with her butt, climbing rocks in skirts so you can get an upskirt view, posing on beds for your entertainment, etc. You can't dress her up and pose her however you like. Most of the time she's doing things that really aren't sexual at all. As opposed to in DOA Xtreme 3, where that's literally all they do.

Again, if you can't see the difference between Bayonetta and the girls in the trailer, that's a you problem.

Well the girls in DOAX arent fighting monsters or trying to stop the end of the universe. In which game do you thing it makes more sense for the girls to act sexy?

I don't think it makes sense to be sexy while climbing rocks. But, you're just shifting the goal posts. I didn't say there's anything wrong with a character being sexualized, just that those characters are in fact way more sexualized than Bayonetta.

Im not shifting anything. You were the one that brought plot into this. No it doesnt make sense to be sexy while climbing rocks. Just as it doesnt make sense to act sexy around the guy who thinks you murdered his father or the prodigy child you are trying to protect.

If this isn't moving the goal posts, then you'll have to explain to me why this is relevant to whether she is more sexualized than the girls in DOAX3, cause I'm not seeing it.

She is acting sexy, dancing and flirting in situations where it makes no sense. Theres zero background of her becoming that way. She has zero motivations for acting that way. She also acts that way just for the player and has nothing to do with the story. Like you said, she just likes being sexy. That could be said about any game character. But no character is being as over the top as her imo. The story in these other games are just silly things like volleyball or squirting people with water guns. She is trying to stop the end of the universe. Thats why I believe she is the most sexualized character ever...

...and I love it by the way. That might not have been very clear.lol

The situations make sense. With Luca she was amusing herself at the fact that he thinks she is evil but he still is obviously turned on by her. As for why she's sexy, some people are like that. And obviously it's pandering to the player to a point. I don't recall her ever being overtly sexual with the child characters.

The difference is that the developers decided to sometimes show off her being sexual, and sometimes other features. As opposed to in DOAX3 where they decided we are going to sexualize these characters literally 100% of the time.

Well I guess we just have different opinions on sexualization then. The girls in DOAX are just being sexy. They dont really force it on everyone like Bayonetta does. I dont get how its ok for Bayonetta to be sexy because she likes it, but the DOAX girls should somehow be held to a higher standard.
