You gotta wonder how good of an English learning software "Weak English Adult DS Training: English Pickled" really is with a title like that.

Has to be a typo or a poor translation on the posters part. I tried to google the name and nothing came up.

That is likely a mistranslation of the Title. Weak English is probably beginners English.

Seems like the Switch domination continues. PS4 barely got a boost from the TLOUII release, meaning that it's all up to Ghost of Sushi to make a difference this year. The TLOUII numbers are okay, but this to me means that global domination over Animal Crossing is not a given. AC was dominating in all regions.

Week 12, 2017, Monster Hunter XX came out for the 3DS, it sold 1+ million copies.  3DS hardware fell from 42k the previous week to 39k that week.  Monster Hunter and the 3DS are more popular than the PS4 and TLOU.  I don't understand these "this game didn't more hardware" for consoles past 72 months...its a hard needle to move for a console of that age, no matter the game.

Tell that to Pokemon and Gameboy.

The point is, not all games that sell well are killer apps. Some sell well because they appeal to an existing fanbase, but not anyone new. The last Monster Hunter game, for example, wasn't a killer app, it was the next game for a pre-existing audience that didn't offer anything appealing for anyone new.

Top 30

NSW - 25
PS4 - 4
3DS - 1

There it is.

NSW 25 (including 8 third party games)
PS4 4 (including 2 third party games)

Just a couple weeks ago I was arguing Switch third party would be dominating Playstation third party.  Well it's already happened and it didn't take long.  There are 10 third party games on this week's chart and 80% of them are on the Switch.

Someone suggested that Nintendo has run out of big games, and what could keep selling the Switch in Japan?  It's an absurd question, but even if all of Switch's first party games fell off of the charts, then the next biggest category is Switch third party games.  Switch's final trick in Japan is that it will keep getting almost all of the Japanese third party games.  Switch has third party domination.  This week, for example, Switch has 4 times the number of third party titles that Playstation does.

TOP 20 Switch Famitsu 2020:

  1. Animal Crossing: New Horizons - 4.934.168

  7. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX - 259.513
  8. Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch - 215.869
  9. Splatoon 2 - 210.468
  10. Super Mario Party - 208.113
  11. Luigi's Mansion 3 - 149.984
  12. Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics -144.297
  13. Super Mario Maker 2 -127.749
  14. Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition - 120.497
  15. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 119.190
  16. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020 - 119.007
  17. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 - 117.954
  18. Fishing Spirits - 109.541
  19. New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe - 107.093
  20. Trials of Mana - 100.451

TOTAL: 9.118.241

  • The total for the Top 20 for 2019 was 11.69M so by mid-year we are less than 1.5M away.
  • All titles in the Top 20 have hit 100K, last year we had games mid-year in the Top 20 that were just above 50K
  • Ring Fit Adventure & Pokemon Sword/Shield are very likely to hit 1M this year
  • In the case of Ring Fit Adventure with ample supply, it could actually finish much higher
  • Clubhouse Games is looking like it will clear 500K in 2020 with ease
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Smash Ultimate, Minecraft are all titles that should clear 500K
  • Splatoon 2 and Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training have a shot at 500K as well.

Titles in Launched in Q3 that should clear 200K in 2020:

  • eBaseball Power Pros 2020, Konami's previous effort sold 200K on the Switch in 2019
  • Paper Mario, only the Wii U entry in this franchise has sold under 200K
  • Captain Tsubasa, it's football + anime - personally I can see this as one of the biggest under-the-radar 3rd party games this year

Per announcement from Famitsu:

Animal Crossing hit 5M retail so it sold over 70k this week
And Switch hardware sold 93 799 this week.

With digital it's easily over 6m meaning it could be at 7m sold in Japan within the coming months.

Era is ballparking ~6.5M with digital. We will find out for certain on August 6th.

NSW baseline would have been huge this past quarter if stock had been available.

94k on a normal week is just amazing...
