  • Over 50% of physical sold in Japan on the Switch this year is New Horizon. 
  • Clubhouse likely selling >100K in the next 3 weeks it should slot in front of Super Mario Maker 2 by the end of Q
  • We are going to have at least 19 games that sold over 100K during the first half of the year on the Nintendo Switch
  • Last year about 28 games sold over 100K physical on the system
  • I think this year the Switch will end up with over 40 games with at least 100K sales

Looks like PS4 got a significant boost this week in both hardware and software sales. Anyone aware of a promotion going on?

Ps4 was sold out every store in my area the past few weeks because of the unexpected massive boost from ff7 and the virus. The boost this week is because people been wanting to buy one the last few weeks but couldnt. It should be back to its baseline in a week or 2 which is 7-8k

Practically This and in two weeks time (19th of June) it will be TLOU part II release so numbers will remain higher than normal weekly sales at least for two weeks after release.

Ring Fit Adventure: 20,023 units

Ring Fit Adventure is the newest IP to hit 1M in sales in Japan.

Last one to achieve that was Splatoon in 2015

Also going to be the first new IP to hit 2mil in japan in Over 10 years. YW and Splatoon both did under 2mil in their first entrys

Me at the start of the year:

I know I've said that every year but it never lived up to expectations, but 2020 will hopefully change this and we will finally get a Japanese 3rd Party 1M seller on the system. I though Yo-kai 4 would do it this year, but I guess Level-5 aren't able maintain a successful IP. I think based on Ring Fit and that other Boxing game the 1M seller won't be a big budget game but rather - something that resonates with an audience. If I was a Japanese 3rd party right now, I'd be thinking about a complimentary game to Animal Crossing with small budget, something that would be attractive to a female audience. Since I'm neither Japanese or a women, I can't really think of something but that would be a smart idea. But Japanese 3rd parties are so far behind the curve that I think maybe a smaller indie dev might eat their lunch at this point.

Hell, Human Fall Flat platform-puzzle video game developed by a single Lithuanian has probably sold more digital copies than any 3rd party game not named Minecraft. I don't think I've ever seen that game exit the top 10 in Japan since releasing. The game had sold 5M copies world wide across all platforms by Feb 2019, I wouldn't be surprised if it's close to 1M in Japan with it's lower price, constant promotions and constant place in the Top of the Digital Charts in the last few years. Overcooked 1/2 is another one I'd say has been doing pretty well in Japan and Japanese 3rd Parties are simply not doing enough and experimenting enough.

Obviously if a new Monster Hunter does end up on the Switch I expect that to easily sell more than 1M but judging from Capcom's output on the system so far, I will believe it when I see it. 

Well I think there is a chance of two 3rd party games eventually selling 1M launching this year. 

Unexpectedly the most likely first 3rd Party Japanese Million seller on the Switch is going to be Pokemon Snap or Captain Tsubasa... not sure which game will get there first but when Captain Tsubasa launches I think we will get a good idea. It's not surprising it's Bandai Namco they are by far the biggest Switch supporters among Japanese 3rd Parties. In fact, lifetime Switch Software Sales for BN should overtake lifetime Playstation 4 Software Sales by the end of 2020 because of Pokemon Snap and Captain Tsubasa.
