Have fun. No matter your take on the story or characters, this will be an unforgettable experience.

So true. Enjoy it! :) The people will be talking about Part 2 for many years to come - just like Part 1.

IGN, this words are great to hear : D

Just wanted to register the point that this right here, now, is the first hour in which it might be theoretically possible that someone has actually completed TLOU2, 25 hours having now officially passed since its release. Of course, that's assuming they didn't have to work yesterday (like me) and didn't eat or sleep or otherwise take any breaks. But still, theoretically possible beginning now.

So how many people scored the game on Metacritic before it was possible to have completed the game? 20,679. Just wanted to register that as the grand total number of people we can definitely confirm reviewed this game on Metacritic without playing it. That's more than double the grand total number of reviews the original game got in the last seven years since its release. The bogus "user" score currently stands at 3.3. So just wanted to register these facts for the history books.

This is the most insane reaction I've ever seen to a video game before, from it being banned in the Middle East to the pre-release leaks to the largest-scale review bombing campaign in the history of video games. I'm just saying that I've never seen so much "gamer" hysteria in my entire life before. Maybe one day people will regain their sanity, but that's clearly not going to happen any time soon. (As some of you may know, I've got my opinion as to what the reason is for this completely over the top reaction -- what's unique about this game compared to all others before it.)

Anyway, I think enough of this is enough. So many fake reviews of this game have been posted to Metacritic at this point that the user score will be permanently skewed artificially negative as a result. Of course that's the whole point of these activist campaigns: to give the wider public the impression that players don't like it, and in that way to dissuade people who might like it from buying it, thus minimizing sales and influencing what sort of material publishers will permit in the future. For these reasons, I think these campaigns should be regarded as a form of political censorship.

Personally, at this point I'm definitely in favor of a crackdown on this type of bullshit. All "user" reviews for this game posted to Metacritic up to this point should be taken down and everyone who posted one of them should be permanently banned from ever posting another "review" there again. Also, Metacritic should henceforth develop a new system for user reviews that requires proof one actually owns the game they're reviewing before any submission is posted.

Nonsense.  A lot of people played a few hours, were so put off by a storyline decision that they dropped the game right there and reviewed it.  Some people read the spoilers and were put off from that as well.  I would say either is fair game.

Especially when you consider the professional reviews.  They're clearly just reviewing anything with "the correct political message" as being a perfect game.  I would say it's just as acceptable to ban those reviewers as it is to ban the users.

Anyone who looks at the two dramatically contrasting scores can figure out something is going on and if you have two braincells you can probably figure out that the answer is somewhere in the middle of the two numbers.  TLOU2 is probably a 70/100.

Professional reviewers were afraid to criticize it and get fired.  Users were pissed about political inserts so they bombed the reviews.

Mid (?) game spoilers.

Spoiler!

My most enjoyable parts so far are the flashbacks with Ellie and Joel.

Part of me wishes that the entire game was just young Ellie trying to find her place and fit in with the new group, her relationship with Joel still being strained after the original and whatever remains of the fireflies coming to get revenge on Joel.

Not what we got, sadly...

1 - Metacritic account should have to be linked to the psn id;
2- Only those who ACTUALLY had the game, woul be able to post a score;
3 - End.

It has over 35k user reviews now. Damn.

It's safe to say these aren't entirely trolls anymore. People are pissed, the fans, the casuals and even the LGBT people among them. ND pissed off everyone with this.

Yeah people will say this is just the bigots, haters and nazis due to

Spoiler!
2 lesbian and 2 trans characters in the game.

But the truth is that this is something we may be seeing for the first time. Other games with LGBT characters didnt have such a difference between "professional" and gamer reviews, they were actually very close.

Drunkmann said this game would be like marmite. Well its seems a lot of people hates it.

I'm going to limit my time each day with this game so i don't end up doing this to my HDD.

God, it's not even comically badly written, it's just really poor and terribly structured. The combat atarted to loose it's shine and the illusion breaks after a bit, once you realise the animations are repeating and that was all a soft lie, the punchyness is gone and it's feeling like a more fluid TLOU.

I'm sorry but are we fucking making up new ways to bring criticism to a game now? The animations start to repeat? This applies to 100% of the games out there and you choose to say that towards the one game with some of the best animations in the industry. That is just disrespectful towards the amount of work so many people put into this game.

I'm around 13 hours into the game as you are and to say things like "this shit is baaaaad", "animations are repeating" just tells me you're paying way too much attention to the negatives some people talk about. You keep talking about other people's reactions to the game and I truly feel like you're folding your own experience of the game around those reactions. Such a fucking pity to see all this criticism over things that are present in other high profile games but let's emphasize on them here because it's cool to hate on ND and this game atm. Shit like ubisoft games never even got 1/4 of the hate this game is getting and those games are still absolute trash compared to this.

I see. So what you're saying is that thousands of people picked this game up the second it was released at midnight Eastern Time on Friday morning, took it home, played it for two hours, and then, disgusted, turned the game off and wrote negative reviews...and then went back in time two and a half hours to post them at 12:02 AM?

No dude, the vast majority of the "reviews" we've seen over on MC to date are obviously written by people who don't own the game, never intended to, and had in fact made up their minds in that regard years ago, not a day or two ago.

The fact is that even now, few people will realistically have completed the game, as such a feat would have required around 12 hours of play for two days, the average gamer typically averaging not more than a few hours a day of video gaming. In other words, average players of this game won't likely be posting user reviews of it until like after next weekend at the earliest, although perhaps a very small number of exceedingly dedicated people who don't have lives may have in fact completed TLOU2 by now. And you can't help but notice that, as time goes on, the share of TLOU2 reviews that are positive is slowly increasing. There will likely never be enough objective reviews to overcome what legions of trolls have already done to the average "user" score, but expect the percentage of reviews that are positive to keep increasing over time as more and more people actually complete the game.

I say that the share of Metacritic users scoring TLOU2 positively will continue to increase over time as more people actually complete the game with confidence because I'm now many hours into it myself and have a tentatively very positive opinion of the game as yet. And it's mainly because of the game's narrative, not in spite of it. It's much too early to reveal important plot details right now, but after I complete the game and have had time to absorb it, I intend to author a thread with my personal thoughts and feelings because, while I mean no, this game isn't going to resonate the same way for everybody (I get that very clearly), my experience so far is filling me with all kinds of strong emotions on subjects that are deeply personal to me. I really want to share.

Why does it matter if people have finished the game or not? Typically you should know you like a game long before you get to the end of it. And if you don't like it then chances are you won't actually get to the end.

Also, there won't ever be any objective reviews since they're not possible. There's never been an objective review for any game for anything other than technical aspects. You can't objectively rate quality, quality isn't a fact, it's not true or false. You can objectively rate performance, but that's it.

It matters because people read game reviews with the assumption that the reviewer has actually played through the game! DUH!!

(And my use of the term "objective" before was intended simply as an allusion to people who's opinions have been informed by a playthrough, not just by some combination of advertising, leaks, and bullshit rumors garnered from YouTube.)

It's fair to say that a bunch of reviews aren't trolls, but when you have pushing 25,000 reviews rated 0-3 in just a couple days, it's fairly obvious what's happening. It has more negative reviews in 3 days than both versions of the original have *total* reviews in 7 years.

The only "real" way to determine the reaction to the game will be with the legs over the next few years, along with however the inevitable PS5 version sells. The original game had extraordinary legs because it was pretty much universally adored and word of mouth remained extremely positive up until Part 2.

Ok, I initially had no intention of playing this game since I absolutely hated the ending of the first one, but my brother bought it so I said "fuck it, let's do it."
I got halfway through and I have to say that the gameplay, level design, graphics, animations, sound design, and voice acting are absolutely exquisite. If I were to rate those aspects alone I would give it a solid 9.5/10

But when we get to the story aspect is when things get complicated; as someone who hated the ending of the first one, I actually like the route the writers decided to take; I like that every action causes a reaction and that we are able to see things from different perspectives. But the problem is that I'm halfway through and I DO NOT want to play anymore. The game is way too depressing for my taste and it has gotten to a point where it actually feels like torture-porn. It has gotten to a point where I don't enjoy the gameplay anymore because I have this unshakeable feeling that more horrible things are coming my way.

This game actually reminds me of the film Requiem for a Dream; a film that I know is an excellent movie, but one that I absolutely hated and would never watch again.

So If I had to give a final verdict (without having been able to actually finish the game) I would give it an 8/10 for the technical aspects of it, and out of respect for what the devs tried to accomplish here. BUT I totally understand why a lot of people are gonna be displeased with this game and will not be able to get past certain parts of the story.
