Color me cynical, but I think this was at least in part a business decision (for which I absolutely hold no ill will against Son for making).

So USA = the world.

So stupid.

Oh ffs everything getting delayed because of shit doesn't stop happening this year.
We can't catch a fucking break to enjoy something, can we?

Considering worldwide we never had a single break day since we started existing. With 7 Billion people and over 200 countries you can bet something very serious happen any day somewhere. It just doesn't have visibility so no empathy, and if it doesn't affect profits companies doesn't need to fake they care.

Good on Sony.

I don't think this will be a long delay anyway. Third parties are getting ready to show their next gen games, while TLOU Part II reviews are out on the 12th, with the game releasing on the 19th. The 8th/9th seems to be the most attractive date to hold the PS5 event.

More like a marketing thing. Look at all other companies too scared to do anything in case of getting called out.

Look at how bad it is in Hong Kong, and the atrocities in Syria. Yet noone outside those countries bats an eye.

It's 100% business... probably they think the event would have some of the attention taken away because of the riot. If it was due to humanitarian reasons they wouldn't even be having any conference since there is always worse shit going in the world, nor would they hire foxconn to build the consoles since they have some bad employee threatment.

Same for basically all companies in the world, it is always about money.

I mean shit is real there in the USA right now, I get it, but what does that have to do with videogames announcements?

That didn't stop Nasa and SpaceX to launch a fucking rocket from the USA to ISS, but it prevents Sony to show me Horizon 2 here?

Exactly.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Because the point of a press conference is to garner as much media attention as possible.  If you're going to get drowned out by something else, kind of defeats the purpose.

Well companies wants to maximize profits, so if they think delaying a single day and winning brownie points for virtuose signaling will earn more money than keeping the date they will do it.

Just like Naughty Dog, do you think that if Sony didn't see it making more money they would let Neil Druckmann run the show the way he is running?

Like someone said "don't trust anyone that profit from upholding any ideal".

And isn't it also the same point of launching a rocket out of earth with private technology? To gather as much attention as possible to that company? Even the USA president was there to gather more attention to it.

Wasn't a problem there.

Stupid example. The original Space X launch was postponed because of the weather.

Following your example Sony would be justified delaying the presentation because of some clouds.

The Space X launch required specific environmental conditions for the sake of the crew's safety.
