Sony is a global entity.
Just because people are out protesting in 1 country, doesnt mean it can just change things around to suit that country.
(even if the US is a big market)

Its up to people if they want to see this PS5 reveal & games event or not.

Madden's market is probably like 90%+ in the US.
Plus america football, has had past issues with racism. So it makes sense, they "have" to push their thing back.
They dont want to look bad, or like their against the protests.

Playstation cant afford to look weak by last minuet cancelling of events, or moveing things around like this.

Basically these 2 things arn't the same.
Its unfair to judge sony for acting differntly than EA does in this case.

And yet Sony postponed the event anyway. You seemed fairly confident in your assessment. What do you think about the sudden and unexpected (except by me) reversal?

They did? they got the date out, on multiple news outlets, and gameing sites, and ran Ads in TV.... and then delayed it?
(that sounds expensive and stupid)

*Sigh*

I was looking forwards to it. This majorly sucks....

Oh for fucks sake Sony. Are you really going to delay your conference because of some idiots tearing down stores?

If you are going to wait for the world to be at peace everywhere, where there is zero issue going around, you might as well dig your grave and lie there in wait, with all the people diyng of hunger, disease, prejudice from both white and black people, corrupt politicians, and so on.

God, after all these shitty months, I was really looking foward to this. It's probably delayed for just one week, but still....

^ So much this.

It feels unfair rest of the world suffers, because of the situation in the US.

The US is too big of a market to risk all the negative attention and general weakened impact of new game/console announcements. Social media which is majorly US driven would not be kind to them if the states are in just as bad or an even worse situation come Thursday. They definitely could have continued but it would have been a risk. 2 things are for sure though

1. The show will have more impact at a later date when less shit is happening in the US.

2. If sony are genuine about their support for BLM and anti-racism, then this is a very strong message.

Gotta please the masses that think USA is the world. Worse things happen daily everywhere in the world, but that doesn't affect profit or company image as much as not taking a political stance on USA matters.

Xbox didnt have a show during this time, so it was easy for them to just throw a picture on twitter saying "we support".
Sony had to go back on their word, apologies to news sites, and journalists, and they even ran TV ads, to promote the event (wastes money on ads).

So I agree, it sends a strong message.

On the other hand, in these trying times, something that ll bring joy and excitement to the world (of gamers mainly) could be a good thing.
Theres gotta be some black americans that also wanted to see this event, and probably havn't been haveing the best of times, that coulda used some good news / cheering up.

I for one am glad the people at Sony aren't this tone deaf...

This goes without saying but again the risk of strong negative push back is there. And this is literally the most important event they will have for what is likely the next 7 years. More than anything, this was a safe option.

I'm black (although UK) and was looking forward to it, but we also shouldn't draw this down to racial lines. Many protestors and people deeply invested in whats happening right now are not black, infact if they went ahead, I'm confident 50% of the people calling them insensitive or saying the timing is bad would be white. And if shit is really popping off the game announcement just wouldn't make as many waves (as shallow as that sounds)

I personally prefer a more proactive route (put your money where your mouth is) with them having a intro segment dedicated to whats going on, announcing donations and more but that would actually be more political then them just delaying the event.

Chances that there is not gonna be leaks now?

Naughty dog has, and sony matched them for it.
Not sure if they made announcements outta it (the donations), but the actually did donate to the cause.
