Forums - Gaming Discussion - Franchise Dark Souls(known for being hard)surpassed 27 million sales; Dark Souls 3 at 10 million units

Meanwhile, UBI reports that Assassin's Creed Origin and Odyssey have sold more than 10 million.
That's such a huge number

I love how you clarify that its known for being hard.

Agreed. Deserves it and more, to me this is one of the best franchises of the last decade. I think the fact that its "hard" overshadows its other many virtues. To this day Bloodborne remains one my favorite games of the gen.
Every single Fromsoftware game has been good, even Sekiro, which I personally didnt enjoy as much as DS due to its more rigid gameplay, but I can recognize it still has great values in it. Im very much looking forward to Elden Ring.

Not only one of the best but also one of the most important considering it's influence in modern games. I have just played Jedi Fallen Order and wow, it's just like dark souls in sooooooo many aspects. It's almost a veil of star wars on top of a dark souls game. Except it's easy.

Hell, it even kind of created it's own genre with games like Nioh following after it.

Also a sign they should not change the genre to cater to journalists that want to play on easy mode

Cool, that means they've found an audience

On the other bright side, I'm thankful there are games that allow for optional difficulties and that those games also sell a metric ton more as a result

Did someone say there's no market for hard games? I'm sure some people have said they'd prefer multiple difficulties, but for the most part it seems like you're tilting at windmills.

Read the thread in my signature.Basically it's that discussion in a nutshell.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Diversity is the true winner here, as I have been saying all along! =)

Having options is always a good thing!, even when it's optional difficulty modes.

Just as good when you have easy and hard games!

What Ive seen is that the souls game franchise is hard until you learn the bosses moves...I like to watch that freak on Twitch The Happy Hobb play this series.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
