Its hard for me to see my favorite series ever become a kind of mess. Dont know exactly when but it seems after FFX square just lost its vision and cohesion for the series. Im old, to the point I played FF4 on snes when it was still called FF2, and FF6 is probably my favourite game ever. Heck, I learned english so I could play those games properly.

FFX-2 while a nice game, it wasnt really necessary and felt out of place, adding to a story that was already finished.
FF12 was going to be my dream game, with the Ivalice team on board (best team ever). A change of director made the game became less than it could be even adding the protagonist later in development.
FF13 well, what can be said? Huge disappointment for most people. Corridor game. Then they doubled down on the error with FF13-2
FF15 Another mess, change of directors, direction, huge downgrade, etc a story that only makes sense only if you watch all other media related to it.
FF7R actually is not what was marketed and its a new story that will be told in several installments, maybe 3, so we probably will se the end only close to the end of the next generation.

I hope FF7R can bring the greatness of the series back. Its clear now its not the same story, but the characters and the world and the original story are so good that even deviating from the original plot its possible to create something very good.

Its seems to me that if I play FF14 solo I will have the best FF in 15 years. Maybe Yoshida should take care of the series? Who knows...

I haven't played the original. I'm not a huge fan of JRPGs, though I do play them once in a while.

Should I play this game?

When you do play JRPGs what kind do you enjoy?

Irrelevant question.

The answer is yes. Final Fantasty 7 Remake is for old and new players. Playing the original only enhances the experience.

Wait for the second and third part...

This is pretty bad. When does it start being fun? Why is the VA so terrible? Why isnthere such a drastic unbalancing in the quality of assets? Why is the hardest mode so easy with just blatent health buffering as the solution? Why are the side quests timed like an MMO? Why are the aide quests less interesting than an MMO? Wtf is with the broken ass pacing? Why is there no settings for adjusting the HDR settings, I can barely see anything without washong things out? Why put so much detail into one asset and then have it sit right next to a jpeg? I thought this is what the remake was supposed to adress? Why did so mamy reviewers brush over so many glaring issues...

Because tons of people (including most likely yourself had this been any other game) would have called those "troll reviews" had they pointed out glaring flaws and dared to give it a lower score.

I'm going to boot up FF14, that game at least has quality control. Jesus, at least give the VA some direction before they read their lines.

I suggest moving on and not turning back.

On a side note though, the theme for the sector 5 Slums .... I could listen to it alllllll daaaaay loooong. Perfect project music.

What he enjoys is irrelevant to determining what other games he might enjoy?  Dafuq?

There are very few JRPG's that compare to Final Fantasty in general; there even fewer that compare to 7 Remake (The ones I think of off the top of my head is Yakuza6, Nier Automata, and Final Fantasty 15). So, there is point in asking him about previous JRPG because a lot it wont answer if he will like 7.

It was not as good as I hoped it would be.
Nice graphics but other then that noting impressed me.
A solid 7/10

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
