and why not download YouTube stuff?

For example I downloaded all the AVGN episodes ages ago on my HDD and can now watch them whenever I want at the highest quality.

Since I also have a 4k TV, I would download certain 4k videos (which are pretty big of course) and then put them on a flash drive and watch them on TV. Can't properly stream YouTube in 4k even though I should be able to with my connection.

I wasn't aware you could. This ill have to look into.

Just copy a link and it will be added to the linkgrabber section where you can decide what to download (and the level of quality).

You know, you may be right that we didn't discuss youtube downloading. I DID discuss it here on VGC with somebody though, and I kid you not, archiving AVGN was a priority for whomever it was as well. Assuming it wasn't you....I'm thinking it was maybe... @Bristow9091......? And thanks for the info! I'll get to trying it soon.

AVGN!! It blew everything else out of the water in terms of quality in the early YouTube days. Now I'm tempted to binge watch them. 

I find myself doing just that once or twice a year. Newer ones are a bit of a mixed bag in my opinion. Still mostly enjoy them though.

Quad HD...  Well, if 720p isn't HD anymore, 1440 can't be QHD anymore either.  Think about it. lol. 

But for me, 1080p isn't MY standard anymore.  720p is just totally out of the question except for Switch and PS3.  1440p is my bare minimum to keep me happy.

Just because Youtube isn't labeling 720P as "HD" anymore, doesn't mean that is the actual case in the real world.

And I agree. 1440P is the minimum for me... My phone is 1440P, my PC is 1440P, everything is 1440P or 2160P.

Resolution is important.

In saying that... The impact of resolution does vary depending on a ton of factors... For example:


In saying that... I find the Switch to be passable in portable mode, it's not an enjoyable resolution for me though, but mobile technology isn't at a point where they can offer 1440P with those levels of visuals at $300 AUD. Maybe in another 10 years.

Just took Crash Team Racing on the Switch for a spin, a native 720p game.

On my 42 inch living room TV, (which is situated roughly 3 meters from my eyeballs when I'm on the couch) it still looks perfectly acceptable, definitely not blurry.

For me personally, anything over 720p is just gravy, and anything over 1080p feels unnecessary.

The evolution will comes from other means than pure screen resolution itself.

That's why I've been arguing that 4K in itself isn't impressive as a resolution jump from full HD than when we were with SD resolution. Now, with the implementation of HDR, I think we already reached some form of plateau when it comes to this topic.

I'm not about to be sitting 1 feet in front of my TV just to see the marginal difference between 8K and 4K in 10 years 😛

Yeah of all the things that can be pushed forward in gaming, the number of pixels is one of the least interesting and meaningful to me.

Agreed. The early ones are rougher around the edges, but James seemed more passionate about them. The ROB the Robot and Bugs Bunny ones are some of my favorites. 

I did enjoy the Halloween one from last year. The one that was done in a single take. 

Completely agree.

Earlier videos didn't feel as forced as many of the newer ones. Often times he just repeats "nooooooo" and "it can't be" in the newer episodes. Not only does this acting seem not convincing, he's also seen way worse games by now so I'm not buying it.

I always liked episodes with guest appearances the most. Mike and Kyle Justin had some extremely funny roles (Spiderman, Lion, Bugs Bunny, Joker, the weird fan from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre episode, Jason etc.) but they don't appear at all anymore. If there are guest appearances then it's celebrities. Some are fitting like Macaulay Culkin for the Home Alone games but the others are pretty bland.

That's not to say there aren't any good ones from the newer batch. I very much enjoyed the Sonic '06 episodes or The Town with No Name, Paperboy and a few others.

I forgot and the Home Alone one. Definitely one of the better of the newer episodes. 

I wouldn't mind bringing in some.classix characters in a new episode. Maybe James is waiting for a new bad Bugs Bunny game. But I wouldn't mind ROB the Robot making a return. 

Can't believe that Shit Pickle never returned for a full episode. He was hilarious.

I don't consider 720p as high definition resolution by today's standards but it's still viable for gaming. It's not mandatory to run the game at high definition resolution to make it enjoyable.

It is still hd. Just not full hd. Most tv stations still only go up until 720. So even with 4K and 8k 720 is still a kind of the standard.
