My deepest condolences to the american people. You tried but failed. Well, let's prepare for a new dark chapter in Human history.

The next dark chapter in Human history will be full blown irreversible climate change, not just the American people but for everyone, not sure Biden is up for the challenge, Tump definitely wasn't :/

Biden has been talking about the dangers of climate change since 1988 or before.
His policy hasnt changed on the matter, and he knows something has to be done about it, and that it was a mistake to pull out of the Paris climate agreement (the entire world, basically came together on). He know frakking oil is a huge issue (sink holes, earth quakes, polutes ground water, ect ect).

Unlike Trump (who basically didnt care anything, how much industry pollutes), hes a huge improvement.

Even since 1988 is impressive given it was the record breaking heatwave of the Summer of 1989 is when the idea of climate change resulting from the greenhouse effect entered mainstream public consciousness the world wide. Prior to this, the dominating environmental issues were CFCs destroying the ozone layer, overproduction of waste/landfills, and conservation. The issue that galvanized environmentalists into the political movement known today as the Green Party, which today is giving the Union a run for its money, was activism against the proliferation of nuclear technology, which was proving exceedingly risky to the existence of multicellular life on earth - and still is to an extent.

Joe Biden was actually the first person to introduce a bill in congress on the issue of Global warming with the Global Climate Protection Act of 1986 (it did not pass).  Before that Al Gore did introduce a concurrent resolution to research greenhouse gas emission in 1985 but Biden was the first bill.

Congrats to Joe Biden for winning the election. I wish him the best of luck.

Alaska always takes forever to count their votes.  Also, what happened to spokentruth?  He just disappeared...

I played Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston's song "When You Believe" in my car this morning.

Congratulations and good luck. This is going to be a very tough term. Pandemic, economic crisis, climate change ... basically four years of recovery.

Dow Jones is up nearly 2000 points.Probably in anticipation for an end to those stupid economy killing tariffs which have ground down the US manufacturing since late 2018.

I'm curious to see where the stock market goes.  We already have a lot of younger investors on robinhood that cause stocks to rise and fall quickly.  If Biden does indeed eliminate capital gains and charges regular income for those over a million dollars there won't be any reason for the investors to hold onto a stock long term for stock advantages.  If you buy a stock and it surges there will be no disadvantages to cash out right away and purchase more when it dips.  With capital gains advantages you need to hold the stock/etf/bond etc for at least a year before selling it and if you do sell all of your stock for a good capital gains you can't just buy the same investment back right away or you will get charged as normal income.  The stock market does dip/correct it self 10% on occasions and even crash on occasion, but if there is no incentive to keep the stock long term, I foresee a much choppier experience and the uninitiated/easily worried will lose big.

Congratulations to Joe Biden on his election as 46th President of the United States of America. I think he will be a good president for America and he will be good for the European-American relationship. Trump destroyed a lot of trust in America over here, hopefully Biden can restore it.

Man, the amount of shit from both sides... Listen up, y'all! It's NOT the end of the world and it wouldn't have been if Donald Trump had won either.

It's bad for the future of socially conscious state policy beyond identity politics, but it's hardly all that crap.

Right before the election I was talking to a friend and I said "It would suck if Trump won, but at the end of the day my life isn't going to change much" and I still stand by that. I don't think my life would really change much either way, but there are a lot of people in this country who aren't so privileged. Dreamers and prospective immigrants in particular. It is safe to say that for many of these people, the difference in policies between Trump and Biden may very well be life or death.

This enlightened centrist stuff kind of falls apart when you start to look at how high the stakes were in this election for a lot of people across this country.

I don't mind that Biden is clearly on the right side of the spectrum. It's probably better that way. His half hearted attempts at socialism will be more palatable for the wider population.

I just wanted to say that after his 2 terms there will be a more leftist Democrat to overtake his legacy and provide real change, but unless he fixes the voting system there is a very high chance that the next President will be a Republican. People will feel safe and be happy about their new benefits, that they'll get complacent. Fewer socially minded people will care about the election and will be easily beaten by the conservative side which will have been prepped for 8 years.

edit: Rol was right. First the leftists steal the election and now they steal our line breaks.
