Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Xbox "Lockhart" specs leaked, is $300

Yeah I also see Sony doing something with cross buy, I just don't like this "best version of a game" thing. I would much rather see developers focus on a single platform and really try to get the best results out of it like we've always seen on consoles. Having a bunch of different SKU's with wildly different specs makes me slightly worried which one they'll end up using as the base console, though.

It's a bit like the X1X or a high-end pc. They're great but nobody makes games that were designed from the ground up to take full advantage of the extra horse power. I mean the X1X is 4 times more powerful than the Xone but it's not like games look 4 times better on it. They look sharper and run at a higher fps, but that's mostly it. On pc it's the same thing, you can play ps4 games at 4k and ultra settings but a RTX2080 could do helluva lot more. Just to give you an idea, here's a tech demo that's running on a single 1080ti gpu. It probably doesn't run at native 4k on a 1080ti but it's a pretty big leap from what we're seeing today on current gen consoles, because it wasn't designed to run on a bunch of different devices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKu1Y-LlfNQ

And knowing this you'll go for PC instead of Series S for what reason?

I will be going for ps5 (and pc for playing in 4k and a higher fps). It's not that I don't care about resolution and a high fps, it's just that I would hate to see developers focus too much on it in console games. Here's another example of what's possible on the ps4 pro if a developer chose to really make full use of the hardware, it runs in 720p but it looks pretty amazing though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lhpn96bbzkk

The general feeling is yes if the only difference is resolution.

I'd like to see Series S be the best selling hardware of the 9th gen.

If the only disparity is a less capable GPU, then it would mostly be lower resolutions and maybe other visual tweaks when necessary.

Do people generally feel it could outsell PS5 though? No. Unless it was like $299 vs $599. But I think Sony is really aiming for competitive price.

Neither sony or ms will ever have 9th gen hardware but if lockhart is real, it should sell more than series x in the 10th gen. And you're severely inflating the price disparity needed for it to succeed.

When talking about not being fully optimized and a large portion of the power being used to either push pixels or ultra settings PC would be where that would be more intensive.

Given you're talking about 10th gen, I think you're confused.

Right, I am creating a hypothetical scenario of prices. My feeling is PS5 and Series X need to be really expensive for Series S to thrive at $299.

I guess he thinks only switch is 9th gen.

Being $100 cheaper would already be enough for the hypothetical series s to be viable. And only switch is 9th gen. Ps5 and xsx will kickstart the 10th gen.

Don nailed it. No, Switch is not the only 9th gen platform. Series S/X and PS5 will be part of that.

Being viable and being the best selling hardware is not the same. Viable just means a platform doing well enough.

I think we agree Series S's sales potential grows with a bigger price disparity to PS5. It needs to be like $200 cheaper to really get people looking at Series S and MS would have to demonstrate its still very capable hardware.

Any product sales potential increases with a bigger price disparity over its competition. And it doesnt need to be $200 cheaper for people to start looking at it.

Don nailed nothing because I KNOW (not think) the switch is the only 9th gen system.

AFAIK, Switch isn't really considered in any gen as we know. And even if someone puts it in a certain gen, it is always gen 8 (because it is the present gen and Switch competes with gen 8 consoles). But to be honest, IMO Switch is a console that probably kills off gen talk for good.

To get significant attention I do believe Series S needs to be $200 cheaper, ideally starting at $299. Feel free to disagree.

Well get prepared for everybody to call the upcoming consoles 9th gen. Because virtually nobody agrees with you. Switch is even considered 8th gen, so that shows we are far from 10th gen.
