Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony is going to mess up this Gen

ps3 was doomed ps4 was doomed now ps5 is doomed.................

they will announce in time the difficulty is if they put out a 12TF console or a 9TF console? if they put out a 9TF console the internet will go wild ie 12 v 9 etc but the flipside if they do release a 9TF then they have beaten xbox on price.

imo the ballpark of 9 v 12 is close and games wont look any different, think 2070 v 2070ti the only thing a ti will do is higher frame rates where as the 2070 will be able to display everything the ti can now if fps is going to be locked at 60 then it wont matter

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

Well if the ps5 looks anything like that picture then they have no chance at all, they couldn't have cooling to properly cool the console down, so people would complain of their consoles sounding like jet planes, also design wise that looks like a kids toy and not something you would put on your media centre.

But I know for a fact 100% that the design is nothing like that, so I don't need to worry.

Apart from that Sony doesn't need anything else to succeed, they can put the console with weaker specs and being more expensive than xbox, they could even launch without any good games for 3 months, and it still would outsell the xbox. The same way Apple doesn't need to do much to sell, they could just change the colour and that would still sell.

Sony already won the generation without even starting for 1 simple fact - It will run all ps4 games, that fact alone is enough of a guarantee of their success, specially when the great Death stranding, ghosts of tsushima and last of us 2 are around.

I personally might start with xbox this time, but I am not the general public, I am a very informed gamer, 99% of people do not inform themselves about this stuff. I am in Europe (Portugal and UK) and I know of no one who is planning to buy the xbox, and everyone I know (around 20 gamers) are planning already for the ps5 without even knowing anything about it.

People stopped caring for the xbox in Europe a long time ago, most people who still buy them its because they already have a ps4.

The only reason Microsoft is all out with xbox series X is the same reason they sold the 360 much  earlier than ps3, because they are desperate. Sony knows they don't need to worry.

One thing that will hurt the xbox a lot, the name, Xbox one, Xbox one s, one X, series X, and now theres going to be 2 models at launch, people will just get confused and buy the cheaper one X lol same mistake Nintendo did with WiiU. People need to know they are buying the next best thing, sony is doing that really well, ps5 clearly means is the next after ps4 which was next after ps3 and so on.

Bear in mind the general public don't read gaming news, and they will consider xbox series X just another model of xbox X, while the ps5 will be the true next gen console.

Considering you more inteligent and informed than average costumer and knowing the historic of Xbox what is the reason for you to start with Xbox this time? Even more when they confirmed their first party will be crossgen.

Just like Sony is losing this gen with Xbox being the more powerful console right?

And also have the cheaper console.

Vgchartz is not a place to discuss such issues/concerns. It is very hostile to this type of topic, despite being a video game sales forum.

I encourage everyone to avoid the topic as it leads to sarcasm, ridicule, hostility and angry reactions. If Sony is making questionable moves we are not to question it, they will succeed or fail next gen regardless of what you interpret and observe, and there is no place to properly exchange ideas about it online, especially not here, therefore best to refrain.

if you fear being ridiculed/criticised or even banned here for voicing your opinion that's not an indication of this places quality of discussion/moderation, but the quality of your opinion.

When people make valid claims/threads/analysis there is no reason for any of the reactions you posted.

But perhaps reading the OP we can have an idea why it received such reactions, and that have nothing to do with a hostile environment.

I do wonder, if anyone could mess it up, what would be the most probable fuck up coming from each of them? Not the most damaging, mind you, just the one with the most chances of actually happening.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

MS: Series X $599+ and they unsustainably push the GP promotions to the point that people abuse it and unsubscribe once it’s over, overall hurting the bottom line.

Sony: Launch titles have low metascores and general PR mistakes that hurt the brand (nothing big).

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Like the OP here, I think Sony's "most probable fuck up" would be hardware related:

1) maybe they used RDNA1 instead of RDNA2 architecture (MS seems to have used the later), meaning their chip could only be produced in 7nm instead of 7nm+ (afaik these processes are not compatible and require a redesign) and could result in a worse $ per performance ratio and in the end a significantly slower console for a compareable price as the competition

2) they could "cheap out" on RAM and come in with too little for a long gen

3) their system design might still be much more focussed on a small form factor than adequate cooling, so customers have to deal with noisy and possibly more faulty machines

4) Sony's custom SSD solution might not be expandable (games won't work from an USB HDD, both the port and the disk would be waaaay too slow), while MS's could be via a CFExpress port on the XSX

from the software side the only Sony fuck up that seems "probable" is that they release without a big AAA game from one of their premiere studios and that these games are more than 6 months off

Sony is too experienced with hardware to make any big problems there. They've been dealing with console hardware and hardware manufacturing longer than MS has and even make in house specialisations.

If there is going to be a hardware difference it will be because of cost.

Software wise, studios like SCEJA, Bluepoint, Housemarque, Guerilla Games, Insomniac are all due for an upcoming game.
