I am not sure it was suppose to be any hype but instead a test of the AI. This is not even a beta yet so you are looking way to much in this test. You need to set your expectations way low at this point until a actual beta test or almost final build comes out. There is still a lot of work to be done from what I can see.

Nah 343 employees were really overhyping the bots on Twitter, they were in particular hyping up the Spartan Bots as being powerful, I agree that it's just a test but 343 shouldn't have overhyped them, Lol, Spartan Bots were slaughtered too. I'm assuming there's a massive gap in the skill level of 343 employees and the players in the preview |
Naw, I believe gamers get overhyped when they read something. 343 could have easily made the bots way powerful by not having them miss at all, hit you with each shot and empty a clip into you every time. What I have seen from each different iteration of the bots is then using different tactics as the AI scale up and their aim improve. I believe they are more focused on trying to get a good balance and realistic movement then just having bots kill you which is what is difficult to do. I believe its easy to make killer bots than it is to make bots that play a more realistic game as if you are playing a person. Getting that right feel I believe is the focus more than just throwing around super aim bots on a map. Getting their path finding right, having to priorities certain weapons and tactics depending on the map. Those would be the true test of the bots AI and it needs to be tailored for each map.

But, 343 were overhyping the Bots prior to release, I saw multiple employees bragging about how challenging they were, I'm not going to scour Twitter back days but even last night we have Joe Staten.
And then Spartan Bots were slaughtered and almost no different to ODST Bots. As I said above, I'm just going to assume there is a massive skill gap between 343 employees and players in the preview but it makes me wonder if the Bots will see much improvement if 343 already considers them to be challenging. The Bots from everywhere I read/looked just didn't sound/look challenging at all, each level was easily being dominated and the gaps between Marine/ODST/Spartan were tiny. Bots are still cool but at the same time, they're still a disappointment, at this current level I don't see them being useful to anyone but brand new players and I can't judge that yet because I'm assuming the majority in the preview were experienced players and they were slaughtering the Bots so that's all the evidence I have to go on so far, it's yet to be seen how useful they are for newbies. Spartan Bots and even ODST definitely need a larger kill gap than only performing around 2-4 kills better overall, Lol. I would even consider using Bots to replace quitters in certain modes (because MCC has a massive quit problem) but I would definitely not with these current Bots, they'd be more of a hinderance, haha. I hope they're place-able in Forge though, that'd be cool, but for Player vs Bots, they look weak AF and useless for experienced players, I know you could say well, the Bots are aimed at casual players, but isn't that the whole point of difficulty differences? Marine Bots could be aimed at casual players and Spartan Bots could be aimed at experienced players. |
I believe we have a totally different outlook on hype. Those twitter statements give me no indication of hype but instead letting people know that they are facing different AI elements between the different bots. I also noticed during this time the number of kills and skillsets of each iteration so there was definitely improvements. If 343 thought their bots were so great, they would not actually go through the trouble of testing them out. They have gathered a lot of data how the bots fare in 4vs4 team matches which as I stated is very difficult to get right for bots unless you just make them aim bots. Its not like bots are any new concept and making aim bots are pretty easy. This is a Technical preview, you are looking way to much into something which is pre beta. This is to get the hardcore community input on what they like and dislike as they have basically 4 months to work out the kinks within their MP game. Usually this type of Preview would not even be open to the public like this, its a statement that 343 is looking to get this launch right. I suggest we wait until a proper beta or almost final build before making any real judgement on what the bots will be.
Bots are never good at teaching experience players how to play the game, they are always for newbies to get adjusted to a map and have something to shoot at but not get killed all the time. You have the opportunity to work on strategy, choke points, position, weapon placement and pick up priorities. You want bots to play a decent team game.

You better pray to Phil Spencer that Halo doesn't release in December. 343 scared of Playground, they don't want that smoke in November.

I believe you are wrong on that :) The reason is that, like every polls out there, Play Station fans are going to vote "against" Halo as best Xbox games and they are outnumbering us unfortunately!
The Internet is cynical place
Rolled credits on Death's Door yesterday. Very very good game. Definitely some Zelda influence in puzzles and layout of levels. Combat is a little more difficult/twitchy than in Zelda though. Graphics good on a Series X, music and sounds are nice, story is pretty good too. I did encounter a few bugs that forced me to quit and restart the game, but it autosaves so I never lost progress.
I'm not good at giving numeric scores but I think it will definitely be in the running for indie game of the year.

| Ryuu96 said: "Don't say we didn't warn you" implies that the Spartan Bots would be challenging, as they warned us about them. They weren't. Looking at ResetEra/Watching Twitch, I repeat that there was almost no difference between ODST/Spartan Bots, they were barely getting anymore kills than ODST Bots. Looking at folk in the actual Preview, they seemed to also say that the Spartan Bots did change behaviours slightly but it wasn't anything significant, as they were still being destroyed. Bots were in part used first because they can test stuff in a larger scale, 4 Players vs 4 Bots results in more matches being played than 4 Players vs 4 Players (they went over this in a blog post) but that's not to say they weren't testing the Bots, I know they will improve them, but by how much? I don't know, Spartans definitely need a huge improvement though. Like I saw a lot, after every Bot difficulty was added, it only took like an hour for folk to start wanting PVP again because the Bots weren't challenging at all. I know this is a Technical Preview, I'm not sure why I can't say the Bots are far too weak in the preview and I hope they improve? That's feedback as intended from this Technical Preview, I'm doing exactly what it is meant for and once I'm in I will submit my feedback as intended. I said as much in my original post that they are too weak but hopefully they up the difficulty before launch, I am more disappointed in that 343 overhyped the current iteration. I'd agree that Marine Bots should be for newbies but what is the point in having difficulty options if there's so little difference? Why can't Spartan Bots provide a challenge to experienced players? That's the whole point of difficulty options, Marine-ODST can be for newer players and Spartan can be for the more experienced. Bots right now don't really play a decent game on any level, they get destroyed overall, Lol. But yes it's a preview and stuff may improve, I'm sure it will improve because I'm far from the only one saying Bots are way too weak. |
Its not that you are saying the bots are weak, you seem to making a judgment that this is it because you believe the developers are satisfied with their bots. This is the angle that I am saying you are looking at this the wrong way. You do not have a technical preview when you are satisfied of your end results, instead you are testing out your results to see how they hold up against the community.
The thing is without knowing exactly what 343 is testing as far as their bots goes this early, its very hard to just make any assumptions or judgements until we get to a stage where the MP is pretty much complete. For all you know, 343 plan is to get the community motivated to kill them as much as possible as playing against bots is never all that fun.
The only thing I can take from a technical preview is that 343 has the game up and running and they are testing their systems against the community and that's it. I will not make any decisions until I we are more closer to release to see what are the changes they come away with based on the feedback from the communityl

Yes, I have been playing the game on the series X and the game is definitely gorgeous. I always thought this was a twin stick shooter so I always aim with the right stick. Also ducking behind cover and aiming high will save you from dying a lot since the AI cannot shot you behind cover. You have to be careful when you see someone duck as aiming high will miss then and you have to come out of cover to take them down. Circle strafing is also your best friend as it will allow single shot guns to miss you more often as well. During missions its always good to do a little scouting as you will find all kinds of upgrades and side missions. I never seem to need to purchase any guns or armor because I pick up so much on mission runs as I usually go off and search the area and find all types of goodies. Currently only playing solo so it can be challenging with a lot of enemies but so far the game is fun. |
I kept aiming high early on because I didn't realize that's what it was and didn't know why I was missing enemies
. It's definitely a game that welcomes exploration and with the great level design, I'll explore as much as I can.
