Outriders server just went down for the third time today. I hope Halo Infinites multiplayer doesn’t have a lot of server issues when it launches.

Kenji Anabuki is the Director of Scarlet Nexus, Lol.

Not confirmation of anything, it's ultimately up to Bandai but good to see folk high up want it, doesn't Scarlet Nexus have Xbox marketing too?

Yeah, I think it's a good idea that Japanese devs put their games into Game Pass. Just selling the game on its own isn't all that beneficial for JRPG's on the Xbox platform.

Didn't even notice how bad Balan Wonderworld scored.

27 on Switch
39 on Series X
46 on PS4
57 on PS5 (most reviews)

I noticed how many of the reviews didn't reflect the score. For instance one of them acknowledged that it would be a good game for those who are ok with dated game design and specifically want a retro experience, then proceeded to give it a 40 review, made no sense at all, it was clearly a subjective rating of the critic rather than an objective rating, even though the review itself was objective. I was expecting scores much more like Shenmue 3 personally, which got a 69 on meta. It's a very similar situation to Shenmue 3 honestly, both being made with early 2000's game design instead of taking into account innovations made in game design in the last 16 or 17 years.

I also noticed that the user reviews for Balan Wonderworld are much better than the critic scores. For instance the Xbox Series user score is 8.8/10 with 109 ratings, PS4 7.4/10 with 150 ratings, PC 8.2/10 with 128 ratings. PS5 and Switch user scores are a bit lower at 6.9 and 6.7 respectively.

When it comes to reviews for platformers you should just ignore them because it's always

Game sucks design is outdated

or...

The more modern approach to the game design taken is terrible compared to the old days.

Anyone here played Narita Boy? Just completed it and I would say that 4 years wait paid off. The game is amazing. If you are into retro-styled 2D games, check it out, especially considering it's on Game Pass.

User scores for Balan on Switch probably reflect the fact Nintendo fans have had 4 decades of subjectivity great platformers. Releasing a half baked pretty universally considered bad platformer and expecting Switch fans to just eat it up was a lost cause from the begining so I'm not surprised Switch has the lowest user score. What I'm saying is .. Xbox need to release more platformers or we need to raise our standards :P

In my opinion at least, Xbox got the 3 best 2D platformers this past generation, Sonic Mania and the 2 Ori games (Guacamelee 1 was also really good and I’m playing Guacamelee 2 right now).

3D platformers though, Xbox definitely hasn’t gotten many good ones in awhile, I hear Crash 4 is pretty good but there hasn’t been much else 3D wise on Xbox that was good this past gen, so that would indeed explain why Xbox Series has the highest user reviews for Balan, Xbox fans are starved for good 3D platformers at this point. That is why MS needs to get a new Banjo or Conker in development imo.

Unfortunately, I fear that Microsoft doesn't have any decent developers that would make a great new Banjo game. Not sure why it always ends up like this, but Microsoft simply doesn't get how to make a good platformer now, it seems. Every attempt to make an Xbox exclusive platformer in the last years failed miserably. On the other hand, every attempt was just a lazy outsource, so maybe they should just try to make one in-house. But I really don't see a developer in Xbox Game Studios which can be given such uneasy task.

I started it tonight. Its okay so far. Too much talking at the first hour or so and the jump had a lot of momentum making platforming a bit tough.

Hopefully it’s COD

Fuck these cheap final bosses (chapter 4 bosses) in Octopath Traveler.
You spend 15-20 minutes to reduce their health to less than 10% then they suddenly execute an attack that makes everyone in your party unconscious for 3 turns.
You obviously don't survive for that long.

Shpeshal Ed mentioned on the Xbox Era Podcast during the Rumour Mill that...

"There's a certain 3rd party, AAA, FPS, that is highly likely to be launching into Game Pass this Fall"

Shpeshal Ed knows what it is but won't say, I wonder, Battlefield maybe? Microsoft is pretty close to EA lately.

He did mention Back 4 Blood but his co-hosts said that won't be AAA which he basically agreed with.

BF6 is the only one that makes sense. No other AAA third-party FPS games except COD and BF that I can think of are releasing this fall. Xbox has been getting Battlefield marketing since 4. Battlefield being on decline since BF3/BF4. EA Play GamePass partnership that EA seems to be extremely happy with. And, of course, EA definitely wants BF6 to be the game where Battlefield returns to it's former glory and they would want as many players attached to MP as possible from day one. BF6 it is then.
