It depends on how much the Xbox Series X is at launch. If it is $499, yes I see $299 for Series S. If it is $599, then $399 would still be $200 cheaper.

My problem with anything above $299 for a "budget" console is that at $399 it's still pretty high as far as consoles are concerned and anyone willing to pay $399 day one is most likely willing to pay the $499-$599 for the Series X where as a $299 price point isn't much different than the RRP of current consoles and could have an affect on those who usually wait 18-24 months for the first price cuts to change their thinking and see the value for jumping in early.
I think the plan for Lockhart is to change peoples mind of waiting a couple of years for a price reduction and getting them to jump in 1-2 years earlier than they would if they have to wait for Series X to drop in price.
