Because Halo 3 is an FPS and people have some experience with FPS games.  Becoming an average player in Halo/COD etc is not that hard and takes less time.  Gears gameplay is something totally different (check dr disrepects's first gears 5 match)  the wallbouncing/Up A/Direction of the pellets and so on makes it harder to become an average player and especially hard for newcomers....They tried to make it user friendly but TC changed all the noob features.  It is no fun for newcomers to go into a ranked match now.  They end up getting destroyed and have to read in chat 'Ezzy, go play fortnite!! from the opposing team.

As someone who has played a large amount of Halo and Gears online(some might even call me skilled ), Gears is the hard game to get into and Halo is easier to pick up and play. Gears controls take longer to figure out. With that said, I think Halo is a harder to master than Gears in the long game. The great Gears players become gnasher/wall bouncing gods(harder to master than weapon in Halo) and can carry a match without using any other weapon, while Halo players become BR gods(become amazing at strafing), but also need to be more versatile with other weapons. I've had more and longer killstreaks in Halo than in Gears, but that's because I'm better at Halo. More casual players play Halo while the Gears community is a smaller dedicated group. 

I could be total wrong and Gears is harder to Master, but I think players hit that skill barrier in Gears quicker than Halo.

In Belgium Mediamarkt has called to say that people will get their console on a later date (all stores get a rather small number at launch).
