My only question about P5R after playing the opening segment, will play some more tonight, is why does it play like a PS3 era game? I know the original game also released on PS3, but that was in 2016! Are all Atlus games like this?

I still did enjoy what little I played, but that immediately stood out to me.

Care to explain what you mean with that?

It sure looks a little dated but from the other JRPGs 7th gen ports I played recently (Ni no Kuni and Shining Resonance Refrain) it feels a lot more modern.

Doesn't the TA stats only count TA accounts?

Well that's why I said that it didn't do too hot on TA.

When comparing the same type of games on TA, I don't see why that shouldn't translate to the whole Xbox userbase. I doubt there's a big difference between actual Xbox players when TA numbers show similar numbers between two games. Obviously some genres are grossly underrepresented on TA such as sports games which is why a comparison between genres doesn't make a lot of sense.

Maybe it's just my inexperience with JRPG's in general. I've always been a Western RPG player since the OG Xbox days. And certainly wasn't one of the aforementioned port beggars

But the very first scene where Joker is attempting to escape and he's dashing and jumping around like he's Sonic felt weird. I couldn't control the camera at all until a little later, and because of how quickly Joker moves around, it just felt janky like it was from that era. Even after the opening segment and Joker was getting off the train, I saw people suddenly disappearing out of thin air when they moved just a few feet away from me lol.

Again, it could just be my naivety of JRPG's, but movement and camera control just felt like it was from an older era. No complaints in terms of the combat and soundtrack whatsoever though! I love me a good turn-based RPG, so I'm really looking to more of it. And of course, I'm not deep enough into the game to say anything regarding characters or story.

I see what you're saying, it does feel a little dated. That aspect is not very refined overall. Hiding behind cover and getting an ambush. Cover sure isn't like Gears of war lol.

Definitely agree about the camera. It's not that good, especially when you simultaneously move the character as well.

I think the thing with people disappearing is a design choice. They are random NPC that don't serve a purpose other than making the game feel less empty. That's why some of them don't even have faces (for example when you look into the subway train from the outside) and you can also move right through some of them.

Let's see if we're about to FINALLY get that AoE console port! If StarCraft was able to get a N64 port in 2000, then we should definitely be able to get an Age of Empires port in 2022
