Finished Narita Boy.

What an excellent indie game. Great art style, great atmosphere, great combat, decent length (took me 6h 30min to beat). There's little to dislike.

The game never really gets old as you continuously unlock new necessary abilities. There are also plenty of unique bosses and mini bosses to fight.
It offers a decent challenge while never being unfair. I died three times on the final boss only to beat him on my fourth try with full health (I got hit a couple of times but you can heal yourself a little).

There are plenty of checkpoints and whenever you die your life will be refilled. Since there aren't any repercussions of dying, one has to ask why the checkpoints don't just refill your health automatically. Instead, you might start a boss fight with only 20% life left so the best option would be to let yourself get killed instantly to restart the fight with full life.

The story was IMO a weak point. You immediately know who the bad guy is and at what point the final fight will take place. Don't expect any surprises as it's very straight forward. NPC dialogue is also a bit weak. Most of them tell you the same story in other words.

The game also has quite a bit of backtracking. That usually isn't much of a time waste but you have to remember what door can be opened now that you got the right key. It can be a little confusing.

The only other thing that comes to my mind is the floaty platforming. Not a huge problem as the platforming is not the focus of the game but it's easy to overshoot or undershoot a jump and fall into a pit (or water). That will only teleport you back to the start of the screen but still...

8.5/10

Grubb on Perfect Dark

  • - 2024 is very likely for release, it was internally planned for 2023 last year.
  • - They were always going to rely on another studio so the studio could stay small.
  • - They were trying a new way to develop games but changed course which is why there's so many departures, he believes Perfect Dark is fine though and everyone who remains, including Crystal Dynamics, are fully onboard with the vision.

Explains why Thomas has been low-key ragging on Microsoft lately over on ResetEra with weird double standards against them.

If that's true, then what did Gallagher sell all the senior developers on when hiring them?

Unless he just never mentioned it until after they were brought on.

Called growing pains.  Meaning that at first they did not know how the roles should flesh out until getting more into the project, then you find overlapping or redundant roles based on the direction of the company.  As to if it will be successful or not only time will tell but its to be expected on a new studio trying to do something different.

Uhhh.

Thomas attacked Xbox employees?

What a fucking moron.

How the hell did Microsoft not sue both Moon Studios founders into oblivion?!

lmao is he the same dumbass who whined about MS not putting their games on other platforms? Now we know the real reason. Ori 3 not really needed, but wouldn't mind a prequel though. Don't blame MS for not working with them.

I still don’t know how to fast travel but leveling up was fun without any concept of what each item did 😅

How do you not know this very basic information, it's *checks notes* ...

Spoiler!
"Hold A for 3 seconds on the big yellow squares"

Omg.. I knew those things were for fast travel... Just thought I hadn't progressed far enough to use them.

Currently in West garden.

It's a great game. Really enjoy the fact that it doesn't hold your hand.

Ah crap... I'm heading into the quarry now. Those friken rats with the dynamite.. One has always gotten away in the few attempts I've had going in.

That sniper on the tower you can avoid easily.

The "poison" tower tho... Yeah. If you can get past quick enough, cool.

Finally got the Xbox Series X a couple days ago! So far, I like the console a lot! Will take advantage of Game Pass as much as possible. I'm really interested in the Guardians of the Galaxy game. I heard it's really good.

Currently playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps and I'm enjoying it a lot!
