I can only speak for myself, but I personally won't rest until Xbox has every major genre covered in their 1st party. And there are 2 big genres they are currently missing in their first party, JRPG's and Fighting (which, it is also worth noting, are two genres their chief competitor Sony is focusing on quite heavily, with moves such as hatting all Final Fantasy mainline games, acquiring EVO, hatting the Virtua Fighter 5 re-release, and are rumored to have hatted Street Fighter 6 as well).

There are rumors that Xbox may be remedying the fighting situation, at least partially, by building a new fighting studio from the ground up to takeover Killer Instinct. If true, that just leaves JRPG's (though I would prefer for Xbox to have a 1st party JP fighting studio as well as a western one). If they aren't willing to build a JRPG studio from the ground up, they are going to have to acquire at least one, either by acquiring an independent studio who specializes in JRPG's, or a whole publisher which owns some studios that make JRPG's, for instance Sega who owns Atlus and the Valkyria Chronicles team.

While it definitely would be nice in theory for MS to diversify their first-party games portfolio by buying or even better opening some Japanese studios, in reality the possibility of it happening is almost zero. I can even bet some of my VG$ that it won't happen this gen, because in current situation it is a suicide to any Japanese studio to sell to Xbox. So, I think the better approach for Microsoft is to just double down on what they are doing right now. Strike deals with third party publishers as part of "GamePass day one launch" deals that will help to bring Japanese games to Xbox. MS already doing that, but they just need to be more active n regards to this.

I see MS going into India, Korea and China as those areas are now getting noticed and flourishing. Getting diverse senor talent is hard and those areas probably are now rip for the picking. I believe if MS can land devs in Japan they would but I also believe the opportunity is very limited. If a dev in Japan is going to sell, they probably would look to Nintendo, Sony or some company in Japan first. The culture just seems to promote more from within then out. If anything, maybe MS can entice some creative heads to come to MS.

Microsoft and Certain Affinity are working on a Monster Hunter style Co-Op title according to Jeff Grubb.

Awesome, this a fantastic move by MS they should have never let this studio go and it also apply that they might have not been willing to sell to Tencent like Splash Damage.

Taiko drum is hard but the achievements are popping up fast...

Also made it to level 100 on Halo's battelpass (honestly the worst battlepass progression for me). They should have an PVE mode/challenges. But I hope in the future those challenges just give credits instead of skins/XP because they are no fun. Maybe keep them for events.

Do you guys think Starfield will for sure release this year?

Supposedly XGS is looking for more co-op games for the network effect, but they don't wanna force their studios on it. So they went looking for a game like Monster Hunter, and as it turns out, CA was making one, so they signed a deal to publish.

Xbox Game Studios and Certain Affinity are making a Monster Hunter Style Game : GamingLeaksAndRumours (reddit.com)

Interesting extra part to the rumour, Xbox is looking for more co-op games but don't want to force their own studios on co-op games so they're scouting through XGP, Certain Affinity was also already making it before Microsoft signed on, I wonder if Microsoft owns the IP then.

Seems like internal studios will focus more on SP experiences while XGP will focus more on co-op experiences.

Nice to see that they don't want to force co-op on their own studios, so anything with co-op is entirely the studios own choice and Microsoft is going as far to actively scout for co-op games instead of asking it of their own studios.

It’s kinda funny that MS wants more Co-Op games and yet Tencent seem to be buying up all the studios that focus on that Genre.

Earlier last year I said that FatShark (Vermintide/Darktide) should have been a target for MS but I didn’t realize that they had already been picked up by Tencent.

MS must be happy that they got RedFall just in time.

Well, since that's out , I'd be a pale snow bunny with the longest swirly pigtails .

Now something else to add to you measuring your mother's 7 inch nipples.  This imagery already caused major disruptions to my holidays and now this going in to a new year?  Isn't the coochie and the vag the same thing?

Literally, WTF?

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Just buy Larian already, MS! Co-op RPGs! Literally perfection. I'm willing to sacrifice Activision for this to happen lol

More cinematic story for Sea of Thieves is cool.

Not surprised they are closing Arena match making was ages sometimes and pretty annoying, Hopefully they Repurpose Sea Dogs and the cheevos involved so there isn't un-obtainables.

Excellent studio for sure but also very similar to Obsidian (Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny) and Inxile (Torment).

What Xbox needs is Action-Adventures (aside from the already mentioned JRPGs and Fighters). Sony is pretty dominant here (Uncharted, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, Horizon, God of War, Ghost of Tsushima). Crystal Dynamics would be ideal or Remedy....
