Or you can push GP on every device that can play games and get people to sub because one place will have it all with one sub. I believe you are way to narrow in your focus on consoles and MS has moved beyond console wars. Its the sub wars now and getting an eco system that has the most top rated games in one place. Forget the console wars, MS isn't spending billions trying to win that battle anymore.

Let me explain to you why Gamepass wouldn’t work on PlayStation, Sony would never allow Gamepass on their platform that has 3rd party games on it because it would directly cut into their own store revenue and then you would have a GP on PlayStation that only has Xbox 1st party games that wouldn’t include BC titles unless PlayStation also allows Xcloud as well also Sony wouldn’t demand native versions of those games on their store. If MS makes a GP on PlayStation that has a way smaller library on it then do you think that Sony would be happy letting them charge the same 10$ a month for a lesser experience? And then what would you have in that scenario?
It would effectively kill Xbox as a console because why would ever want to buy a Xbox when you can buy a PS5 with actual exclusives while subbing to GP whenever MS releases a title you would interested in playing.
Phil is smarter than any of us and I trust that he knows what he is doing, but I don’t see any benefits as an Xbox user by having Gamepass and effectively 1st party games on PlayStation.

Not sure why you put Sony in your response to mine as I did not make any statement on GP on the PS system. I was talking about that MS does not care about the console war anymore. When MS pays 70 billion for a game publisher, this is not a move for Xbox, this is a company wide move where everything hinges on MS services. MS is a service company now and they are hedging their entire company on creating this huge layered services that will entice billions of users to join. What you are looking at is probably only 5% of MS goal and you believe these moves are done in competition against Sony but its not. These moves are done in competition to Apple, Google, Amazon, all the big players. GP is just one service that MS is looking to leverage all their services.
So if MS could put GP on Sony and Nintendo system they would do so in a heart beat. You are looking at the situation like a Xbox/MS fan but you really not looking at it like an investment that spans all of MS as a company. Do not be surprised when you see 365 and GP bundled together or even a host of different bundled options and services together. Having a billion subs is way more important to MS then having 50 million or even 100 million Xbox consoles sold.
All these companies are rushing to create sub based gaming subscriptions. For consumers there is only so many subscriptions they are going to purchase so the first company to separate themselves from the rest usually takes the lion share. Bundle enough value in those subscriptions and its feels like a no brainer.
The thing I believe is missing from MS profolio is some type of TV/Movie service like Netflix. I can see Sony combining all their services into a subscription and include TV/Movies for a nice competition to GP. Its going to be very interesting how all these companies jocky for position in the next 5 years.
Getting back on track, I will say again, the console war is over, its now the subscription wars and its whoever can put together the most top rated content with a decent price that wins the crown. One thing for sure, the influx of money in the gaming space will be significant. Making me think its about that time to try my hand at building a game.
