Forums - Gaming Discussion - Nintendo's success with the Switch both a blessing and a curse?

But Switch 2 isn't releasing in 2020, so we can't expect such a decline. Except you wanna tell us the decline of PS3-sales was caused by the release of the WiiU.

It's not so much about a Switch 2, it's about the next gen consoles coming out next year and how that will affect Switch sales. Sure you can say they are in different markets but you have to keep in mind that around 60% of the Switch owners also have a ps4 and Xone. https://www.nintendoenthusiast.com/npd-60-percent-switch-owners-ps4-xbox-one/

Like I said, the masses usually flock to the latest gadget when it comes to gaming. Right now that's the Switch, but if 60% of the Switch users also own a ps4/Xone, I wonder if the Switch can hold their interest when next gen consoles hit the market and something like GTA6 comes out.

This logic makes no sense.

PS4/XBO early adopters became NSW early adopters and will become PS5/XSX early adopters.........how does that affect future sales of NSW?

NSW owners buying a PS5/XSX doesnt affect Nintendo, they already got their money from those people.

The people who bought a PS4/XBO for $150-300 in 2017-2019 are more likely to buy a NSW in 2020/2021 than a PS5/XSX.

What makes you think that? People are always dying to buy a next gen console. Hell, I remember people buying and selling the ps4 at a premium because they were all sold out in the stores. If over 60% of the people who currently own a Switch also have a ps4/Xone, it's very likely that they will be buying a next gen console next year. Now ask yourself this, if you have a Switch and just got a ps5, will you be spending your money on Switch games or would you be buying games for your brand new console that'll make Switch games look like 3DS games in comparison? Also, will people still be so interested to complement their ps4 with a Switch if they can also get a ps5?

Obviously, graphics aren't everything and Nintendo does have its hardcore fans who just want to play the latest Mario and Zelda games. But with the Switch it seems their audience overlaps with the ps4/360's, who are also into "core" games. That's why Nintendo better bring it in 2020 because a lot of Switches will be collecting dust when something like GTA6 comes out and the appeal of having a powerful handheld that can do most "modern" games, disappears.

Look at the part you highlighted, you think the people who waited 4-6 years to get a PS4/XBO at less than half the launch price are the same people who will buy a PS5/XSX in the first year when they are at full price?

Like I said, Nintendo doesnt care if Switch owners get a PS5/XSX and spend more time on them because they already got their money from those people, most consoles have a ~10 game attach rate so as long as these people buy just 1 or 2 flagship titles each year and keep their $20/year online subscription than Nintendo is happy.

There isnt any reason to expect Switch sales to just disappear after the release of PS5/XSX, just take a look at 3DS to compare, it sold about 40 million after the release of PS4/XBO so why would Switch (a more popular console) all of a sudded become undesirable because of new consoles?

Seriously? Late adopters of one console are likely to be late adopters of another. We already know many people who bought the switch were early adopters of ps4/x1 so it makes sense that at least a good chunk of late adopters also get the switch in 2020-2022 when it's available for cheaper.

Switch already doesn't play most big "modern" games. Where's COD on Switch? Jedi Fallen Order? Red Dead Redemption 2? Destiny 2? Sekiro? DMC5?

Hasn't stopped Switch tracking close to PS4 in sales.

Don't understand, you two? PS4/Xbox 1 top selling games are 3rd party while Switch top selling games are 1st party. Which mean:

1. Majority people bought ps4/xbox 1 mainly for 3rd party games with 1st party/exclusives as a bonus

2. Majority people bought Switch mainly for exclusives/1st party games with 3rd party as a bonus

Xbox Series X/PS5 could be 20gflops with 8k/120fps or whatever, still meaningless for people who want to buy and play the Switch

Take a look at these weekly sales in December

Most people bought Nintendo Switch to play Nintendo Switch exclusives.
Most people bought PS4 and XBO to play AAA 3rd party games like COD, FIFA, GTA, Madden, NBA2k, and etc.

You cannot play the new 3d Zelda game, new 3d Mario game, new mainline Pokemon game, new Pokemon Remake, new Animal Crossing, new 2d Mario, and etc on the Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X.

Why are we assuming that the people who bought a $350 Switch waited years for a pricedrop before they got a ps4/Xone? I think it's the other way around. Early adopters of the ps4/Xone have no problem spending $350 on a handheld to complement their other console. And they will also have no problem spending $500 on a next gen console. The 3DS is a bit different as that was really a pure handheld that you can't really compare with a traditional console. The Switch is basically the Wii-U, except it's more refined and fully portable.

You really dont seem to grasp what I'm saying because I already addressed that twice.

First time

"PS4/XBO early adopters became NSW early adopters and will become PS5/XSX early adopters.........how does that affect future sales of NSW?

NSW owners buying a PS5/XSX doesnt affect Nintendo, they already got their money from those people."

2nd time

"Like I said, Nintendo doesnt care if Switch owners get a PS5/XSX and spend more time on them because they already got their money from those people, most consoles have a ~10 game attach rate so as long as these people buy just 1 or 2 flagship titles each year and keep their $20/year online subscription than Nintendo is happy."

And im not saying people who bought a Switch at full price bought a PS4/XBO at a discount, I'm saying people who waited years to buy a PS4/XBO at discounts are more likely to buy a Switch in the next couple years than they are to buy a PS5/XSX at full price.

I've already discussed everything you have brought up so either respond to the points I made or dont bother quoting me.
