Forums - Gaming Discussion - The greatest loser; which console that lost its gen in sales do you love most?

StriderKiwi said:
Most of my favs from each gen are the "losers". Gamecube, Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One.

Can't really decide personally. All the ones I named were noteworthy for something and deserved better sales.

I think if the 360 had not had red ring issues it would've beaten out the PS3 in overall sales, but that's not to discredit the comeback the PS3 had.

And as unpopular of an opinion as it is on this site, I still really like the Xbox One.

I'm def a PS fanboy, but the XBO is a fine system. S'pecially the X. It's lagged on exclusives, but most of the console exclusives they've had have been solid-to-great, and the overall library is fantastic. I just don't like the parent company much, or how Xbox goes, and has gone on about about things in a broad sense, for a very long time. In a few different ways. I'll leave it there, because this is supposed to be a positive post.

You should vote on the monthly Most Wanted threads. Last month, the XBO got zero votes. And it's kinda fun too.

As i don't care about consoles that won its gen in sales in world wide. I love every SEGA consoles(Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast and Game Gear), N64, GameCube, Wii U, OG Xbox and Neo Geo AES.

Aside from traditional consoles, you gotta love the MEGA-CD(The SEGA CD), there are great games with great soundtracks.

Do you mean any console that didn’t win, or the best console that came in last. If the first then my favorite of a generation hasn’t been the winner for most generations. Except the 3rd and 4th, where I did like the winner best, 8th is up in the air considering whether or not Switch will be counted 8th or 9th gen and whether or not it sells more than PS4 or PS5, and obviously what each of their libraries at the end of their lives will be like.

If it’s any that didn’t win; N64. My favorite console period, with such an onslaught of classics I don’t think it needs explanation.
If the best that came in last; Dreamcast. Was ahead of it’s time and had a couple games that made me not think about getting a PS2. Some I still remember fondly as among my favorite games of all time like SoulCalibur; still the best fighting game ever made.

Perhaps I should have clarified; every console that did not win its generation is eligible.

That includes, for instance: PS3, 360, N64, Saturn, PSP, Vita, Xbox, Gamecube, Dreamcast, Megadrive/Genesis, Master System, Wii U, Turbografx-16, etc.

Adding this to the OP for clarity.

For me it would be N64. So much of my childhood is tied to that system.

Easily the PS3.

I don't think we'll ever see a comeback like the PS3 had during the second half of its life cycle. It saved the PS brand and garnered a ton of good will going into the next generation.

GameCube.

1. Gamecube or PS3
2. N64
3. Sega Megadrive (Genesis)

Favourite Gamecube Games:

The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Collectors Edition (Zelda 1 & 2, Orcarina of Time, Majora's Mask)
Resident Evil (remake)
Resident Evil 2 (PS1 port)
Resident Evil 3 (PS1 port)
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X (PS2 port)
Resident Evil 4
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echos
Tales of Symphonia
Super Mario Sunshine
Smash Bros Melee (really good multiplayer)
Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes (exclusive remake of MGS1)
Luigi's Mansion
Star Fox Adventures
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles
Soulcalibur 2 (Good multiplayer)
Kirby Air Ride (City Trail Mode was fun, especially on multiplayer)
Wario Ware (Really fun multiplayer)
Mario Kart: Double Dash (Fun Multiplayer)
Skies of Arcadia: Legends
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Sonic Adventure DX
Sonic Adventure 2 Battle

Favourite PS3 Games:

Red Dead Redemption
Bioshock Infinite (Also Bioshock 1 & 2, but I personally think Infinite was best and belonged in the top handful of gems of the 7th gen)
Fallout 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
The Last of Us
Batman Arkham Asylum
Batman Arkham City
Metal Gear Rising: Revengence
Castlvania: Lords of Shadows
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 6 (Let me explain: its a bad survival horror game (70-80%), but a really good 92% action adventure game, similar to uncharted, lots of AAA content and I would even say it has better combat than uncharted. It also does have decent horror parts through the first half of Leon's campaign and all through Ada's campaign too.
I am Glad Resident Evil 7 changed back to survival horror though, because Resident Evil shouldn't be a good action-adventure game; it should be a good survival-horror (adventure-ish) game).
Resistance 2 (and maybe Resistance 3 too)
Infamous
Infamous 2
The Evil Within
Dead Space
Dead Space 2 (and maybe Dead Space 3 too despite what other have said, I only played the first 2 though so I can't judge)
Uncharted: Drakes Fortune
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West
Dragon's Dogma
Devil May Cry 4
DMC
Devil May Cry collection
God of War 3
God of War Collection
Ico & Shadow of Colossus Collection
GTA 4
GTA 5
Dead Island (and possibly Reptide too but Haven't played it)
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
L.A Noire
Skrim
Minecraft
Mass Effect Trilogy
Dante's Inferno
Mirror's Edge
Valkyria Chronicles
Final Fantasy 13 (I know, its got extremely bad combat: virtually no game-play as a mechanic, but its cutscenes, story & settings make it feel like an adventure film. I didn't mind it).

I can't be bothered to do a favourite N64 & Sega Megadrive (Genesis) console game list. I've typed too much all at once already lol XD.

I have (or have/had in the household): ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amiga, NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Megadrive, Gameboy, Playstation, Nintendo 64, Windows 95, Gameboy Colour, Windows 98, Sega Dreamcast, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Windows XP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, Windows Vista, iPhone, Windows 7, 3DS, Wii U, PS4, Windows 10, PSVR, Switch, PS5 & PSVR2. :D

and I Don't have: Magnovox Odyssey, Any Atari's, Any Macintosh computers, Sega Gamegear, Virtual Boy, Sega Saturn, N-gage, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PSP, PSVita & Andoid Phone. Plus any non-main-stream consoles/platforms I haven't mentioned.

PS3 is the clear choice. Although the Genesis also makes a good case. Plenty of good games on both of those systems, and anyone who only owned on console during their generations would still have plenty of great games to play.

Vectrex, Master System, TurbographX, Neo-Geo, Dreamcast, Gamecube, Wii U, OUYA, so quite a list for me

Master System, if nothing else because Alex Kidd was a way better Sega mascot than Sonic has ever been
