"Switch will fall off a cliff in 2018."

Very little changes from previous week. Every console very little down, except XBOne, a little up. Not a bad thing, considering the slow season.

Just like PS3 and 360 drowned the Nintendo DS, right?

And just like the Switch drowned the PS4/One. Eventually people will realise that PS4/Xbox are not in direct competition with Nintendo consoles and vice-versa.

Sales of PlayStation/Xbox will greatly affect each other due to their similair libraries and markets, These sales will not affect the sales of a Nintendo console. PS5/Scarlett could down each other, they cannot drown the Switch.

Exactly. Plus, if a $300 Switch and a $300 PS4 didn't directly clash, how are a likely $500 PS5/Scarlet going to drown with what by then will probably be a $250-$200 Switch?

The only way PS5 and Scarlet could directly compete with NS, would be if Sony and MS make hybrid versions of them. With Zen 2 and Navi this would be impossible, unless the home version use a very lightweight Zen 2 version for the CPU cores (except for some optional service, and possibly disabling the option to be a game server in local multiplayer games, unplugging a hybrid leaves CPU requirements almost unchanged in a game) and Navi cores lightweight enough to allow game engines to scale up or down when plugged or unplugged, to offer the same gameplay, just at different resolutions. During successive years, though, portable Zen 3 and Arcturus cores could offer hybrids the necessary power even when unplugged, but only if PS5 and Scarlet won't push Zen 2 and Navy too close to their limits, in that case it could happen that only Zen 4 and Arcturus 2 could allow to make portable versions. In both cases NS would already be so huge to not fear them, and in the latter case the hybrids would arrive so late to bring Sony and MS very little benefits even just gathering additional profits without any ambition to directly compete with NS.

Pretty much.

Nintendo have diverged from what Playstation and Xbox are doing, and there's not much incentive for Sony or MS to try to copy them when they already have an established presence in the traditional console space to defend. (Plus MS already benefits from the Switch by releasing games on it)

With little chance of a Playstation or Xbox Switch clone, and PS5/Scarlet angling to be $500 powerful traditional home consoles, there'll be even less overlap with Nintendo then there is now.

Any claims that the new systems will sink the Switch is just wishful thinking from those who want to see Nintendo fail.
